Thursday, December 13, 1923 Ndghborhood Notes Mrs. W. D. Toy left Saturday for a week or two in Salisbury with her sister, Miss Elizabeth Bingham. T” Miss Edith Dashiell of Indian apolis is visiting her brother on Park Place Drive. J. G. Beard left Thursday with his sister, Mrs. Phineas Horton, to spend the week-end with her in Winston-Salem. Miss Katie McKimmon and Miss Fenner, of St. Mary’s school, Raleigh, were with Mrs. J. S. Holmes for a few days this week. Mrs. R. L. Gray has returned to Chapel Hill from a visit of several weeks to her sister, Mrs. Ed Lilly, of Fayetteville. Mrs. G. Y. Buice left Sunday to be with her daughter, Mrs. Robert Dunn of Raleigh, for a few days. Dr. H. W. Chase is in New York and tonight (Thursday) addresses the University alumni there. Dr. John Manning Venable, of San Antonio, Texas, is here with his wife and young daugh ter to spend Christmas with his father and mother. Erich Zimmerman, recently operated on for appendicitis, has come home from Durham and is walking about the streets again. Young Thomas Kibler has re turned from Raleigh where he underwent treatment for the chicken-pox in Rex hospital. Mr. and Mrs. William Steele and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Stock ton came down from Winston- Salem Sunday to be with Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Comer for the day. Mrs. Louis Sutton of Raleigh and her two children were with Dr. and Mrs. Venable for a few days this week. Mrs. Lay of Beauf&t has re turned to her home after a visit to her daughter, Mrs. Paul Green. Record Football Crowds A statement issued by Grad uate Manager C. T. Wooollen shows that 68,692 people paid admission in 1923 to football games in which the University of North Carolina took part. Shepherd, profes sor of history in Columbia Uni versity and probably one of the world’s leading authorities on Latin-American history, gave a lecture on the Monroe Doctrine in Gerrard Hall last week. He conducted a seminar for sev eral days for the advanced stu dents in history.
