C. | Chapel Hill Chaff | (Continued from firtt page) ; in Derby, the town in northern • England from which the word : comes, Derby is pronounced as it is in America. . * . Sometimes when I am looking for one word I come across an other that I have never heard of before. This happened to me when I consulted the English dictionary to find out what it said about -er. In the adjoining column I saw the word, equivor ous, and it so stirred my curios ity that I forgot all about -er. Here are some correct uses of equivorous: Many a person is equivorous without knowing it. Equivorous is something which most people will not be inten tionally, but being equivorous will not do anybody any harm. The unwillingness to be equivor ous is more due to a preconceived idea, or prejudice, than to any sound reason. . . . Some of the word-hounds in the University -may know what equivorous means, but probably the great majority of people do not. If :you want to know the meaning | you will find it in the fourth column of page 10.
