Finance Chairmen Hold Meeting Here The League of Women Voters held a workshop for finance, chairmen of this area on Tues day morning at the home of Mrs. U. T. Holmes Jr. Mrs. Edith Roush of Charlotte, finance chairman of the State Board of the League, conducted the meeting, which was attended by representatives from Raleigh. Ralph Schumacher Jr. of Drexel Hill, Pa., exchanged their wedding vows in a double-ring ceremony on Saturday everting at the Uni versity Methodist Church. The Rev. Clyde G. McCarver officiat ed. Nuptial music was provided by Frank Bentel of Durham, organ ist, and Byung Kwon of Chapel Hill, soloist. The church was decorated with altar vases of white flowers, and candelabra. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Dale Swisher of McLean, Va. and Carrboro. She is a graduate of Taipei Amer ican School and the University of Colorado. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Ralph Schu macher of Drexel Hill, Pa. Ifc is a graduate of Ursinus College and the University of Pennsyl vania Medical School. He has completed a three-year residency at Wadsworth VA Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. Given in marriage by her fath er, the bride wore a formal gown of embroidered silk organza with a Sabrina neckline. The bell skirt ended in a chapel train. Her veil of silk illusion was at tached to a crown of lace edged in seed pearls. Her bridal bou quet was a cascade of gardenias. Maid of honor was Miss Bonnie Irene Swisher, sister of the bride, who wore a floor-length gown of pink organza fashioned with a scoop neckline, short sleeves and a flowing back panel. She wore a matching rose hat with a cir cular veil, and carried a bouquet of deep .pink roses. Flower girl was Susan Schumacher of King of Prussia, Pa., niece of the bridegroom. Proconian Cleans Up Even Cleaner In addition to first place awards for editorials, features, photogra phy, and sports coverage, and a second place award for news cov erage, Chapel Hill Senior High’s Proconian has won a second place award for makeup. All the awards were presented at a banquet Wednesday by the N. C. Scholastic Press Institute, which held its 22nd annual con vention here last week. Through oversight, individual awards and the makeup award were not announced earlier. Mrs. Martha Gill, Chapel Hill High English teacher and adviser to the High School journalism class, was one of two such teach ers in the State to win a special award for her excellent work as adviser. Mrs. Gill was not at the ban quet to receive her award. She is teaching at the Governor’s School for Talented Children in Winston-Salem. Individual awards given to Chap el Hill High students at the ban quet were an honorable mention for news writing, to Melanie Rip perton; second place for photo graphy, to Jock Lauterer; and honorable mention for feature writing, to Mary Lindsay Spear man. The Proconian was the only paper in class B (less than 750 students) to win an award in every category. Raj Chandra Base announce the marriage of their daughter, Sipra, to Maurice Glen Johnson of Frankfort, Ky. The double-ring ceremony was per formed Saturday at the home of the bride by the Rev. James O Cansler. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a street length, princess-line dress of white silk-linen, long white gloves, and a white veiled hat. Her wed ding corsage was an orchid. Maid of honor was Miss Purabi Base of Washington, D. C., sister of the bride, who wore a blue linen sheath with beige acces sories and a white carnation cor sage. Best man was Robert S. John son of Chapel Hill, brother of the bridegroom. The bride received her AB de gree from the University here where she was a member of the Valkyries and Phi Beta Kappa. She has completed all require ments for her MA degree at Col umbia University. The bridegroom received his AB degree from Georgetown Col lege. Ky., and his MA degree from the University here where he was a member of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
