The church was decorated with al tar flowers of white carnations and snapdragons. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Marian Mintum Walter of Bloomington. She is a graduate of Indiana University. The bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Alonzo Groves of Gastonia. Recently awarded a fellowship, he will do graduate work in philosophy at the Uni versity of California. He re ceived his BA degree from the University here. Given in marriage by her friend. Mack R. Creech of Wen dell, the bride wore a full-length gown of white silk organza which was fashioned with a scoop neck line trimmed in lace appliques and seed pearls. The full skirt, which ended in a full chapel train, was also appliqued in lace. Her veil of illusion was attached to a crown of seed pearls. She car ried a cascade bouquet of white gardenias. Matron of honor was Mrs. Thierry de Bremond of Wash ington. D. C., sister of the bride, who wore a pale blue dress with a matching veiled hat. She car ried a bouquet of mixed blue and lavender flowers. Brides maid was Miss Patricia Parker of Washington, D. C., a former classmate of the bride. She wore a lavender dress with matching veiled hat. Her bouquet was of mixed blue and lavender flow ers. Best man was R. Sheldon Dun ham of Cary. For the ceremony, the bride's mother wore a beige lace sheath dress with a matching veiled hat. Her corsage was of pink roses. The bridegroom's mother wore an aqua chiffon sheath with matching veiled hat. Her corsage was of white roses. The wedding was followed with a reception in the Pine Room of the Carolina Inn. After a wedding trip to the beach, the newlyweds will make their home in La Jolla, Calif. THE CHAPEL HILL WEEKLY Dr. Janis Klavins Will Sing Tuesday Dr. Janis Klavins, bass-bari tone, will present a concert with Mrs. Juanita White, pianist, Tuesday evening at 8 in Hill (Music Hall. The recital is spon sored by the University Music Department’s Tuesday Evening Series. Dr. Klavins and Mrs. White will perform in its entire ty the song cycle “Die Schone Mullerin” by • Franz Schubert. Dr. Klavins, a native of Lat via, received his early musical training under Madame Cinka- Berzinska in Riga. After the Soviet occupation of Latvia he continued his studies at the Landes Music School in Lu beck, Germany. In 1948 Dr. Klav ins graduated from Christian Al brecht University in Kiel, Ger many, receiving degrees in both the Arts and Medicine. In 1952, Dr. Klavins came to the United States to accept a position as assistant professor in the Department of Pathology of the School of Medicine, West ern Reserve University. In 1960 he became director of the School of Cytotechnology at Duke's School of Medicine. He has appeared in operas and as a solo recitalist in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Fran cisco, Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland, as well as in Canada. At the request of West Ger? many’s Concert Agency he is currently making plans for a series of concerts in Europe. Mrs. Juanita White is a form er student of the Peabody Con servatory and of Mme. Vengero va in New York City. She has appeared in numerous concerts in New York, Washington. D. C., and North Carolina. She is pres ently director of the Juanita R. White School of Music of Durham and Chapel Hill, Little Symphony Will Play Here A number of Chapel Hill mu sicians will be among the per formers with the Triangle Little Symphony under the direction of Dr. Paul Bryan when the or chestra makes one of its regu lar summertime appearances here on August 5, at 8 p.m. The Little Symphony will be heard in a concert, open to the public without charge, in Hill Hall, a concert which will fea ture the playing of Julia Mueller, violinist, in the Mozart violin concerto in A major, K. 219. Mrs. Mueller, violist with the Duke String Quartet, and well known Duke music faculty mem ber who has been heard in many sold and ensemble appearances in this area, is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. She also studied with Lionel Tertis in Europe on the William Huntington Beebe Scholarship given by Eastman. A former member of the Ro chester Philharmonic and the National Symphony Orchestra, she also played with the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra in its statewide tours. ENGAGED The engagement of Miss Dora Lee Jeffreys of Chapel Hill to Jon Jay Lancaster of Norfolk, Va. is announced by her mother, Mrs. Romulous Saun ders Jeffreys. A September wedding is planned. The bride-elect attended High Point College and the Uni versity here. She received her AB degree in June. Mr. Lancaster, the son of Commander (USN-Ret.) and Mrs. J. Van Lancaster of Norfolk, Va., will graduate this summer from the University. He will be commissioned an Ensign in the Navy in August. Dr. Bryan is director of bands at Duke University and is pro fessor of music in the Dept, of Music there. He holds the Ph. D. in music from the University of Michigan. A former president of the North Carolina Bandmasters As sociation, he is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, the American Mu sicological Assn., and the Amer ican Bandmasters Association, having been elected just last year. The Chapel Hill musicians play ing in the concert here included violinist, Lt. Col. Earl Wolslagel, a UNC graduate now retired from the U. S. Air Force and re siding here; Mrs. Suzanne Park er, violinist; Mrs. Marjorie Ren ner, violist; Mrs. Yvonne Wil liams, flutist; and William Ben nett, doublebassist. The program, sponsored by Graham Memorial as part of its summertime entertainment se ries, will also include the Schu bert Symphony No. 5 in B-flat, and the Haydn Symphony No. 77, also in B-flat major.
