Frequently, on her night off from the family restaurant, Harry’s on FrafTlclin Street, she makes them in prepara tion for some festivity schedule:! for the future or to have on hand for unexpected company. Company is the expected thing these days, the last month before the Macklin -' daughter be comes Mrs. Barrie Bergman in Beih-El Synagogue in- Durham. Actually, most of the partying is being done away from the Macklin home as Arlene is feted at a round of pre-nuptial showers. Re cently she was given a kitchen shower by her friends from high school days with hostesses the Misses Kay and Beth Marley. 203 Short St. Kay will be a soloist and her sister a bridesmaid in the ceremony. Maid of honor will be Arlene's younger sister, Rosalee, 14. She will be a sophomore at Chapel Hill High School in the Fall where she is in terested in dramatics. Arlene, 18, graduated from CHHS in June and was treasurer of the senior class. She is enrolled at UXC for the fall semester. A former student at Duke University, her fiancee will manage the new Record Bar on Hen derson Street following their marriage, lie is the son of the Harry Bergmans of Durham. Al though the young couple will move into a new apartment here following their marriage on Au gust 11, they plan a short trip to Greenwich, Conn., the first week. Mr. Bergman will be an usher at the wedding of his best man there on August 17. Flying in from Los Angeles on August 9 will be the Macklins’ son, Ralph. He is in a training program to become a drug store manager and will come back to usher in his sister’s wedding. Ralph, 24, was only eight months old when his parents opened a drug store here in 1940. Long time Chapel Hillians will remember it at the site of the present Youth Center, next to the Carolina Theater. From there in 1954, the Macklins opened their first restaurant where the Fireside is now and on Feb. 24, 1960, moved to the present loca tion next to the Post Office. However, sumqier school students will have to do without tlteir Ham burgers and Harry’s Delights for a time after Au gust 24.
