Chapel Hill Scouts
Word From Canada
Chapel Hill Boy Scout Troop
835 is currently on an extended
expedition to Canada. The fol
lowing dispatch is from David
Miller. Troop Scribe.
This letter will be mostly about
the Canadian Scouts. The Cana
dian Scouts are some of the
nicest people any of us have
met. First Mount Bruno was the
first troop we met. Y’ery soon
we were all good friends. Satur
day they left and we miss them.
The Canadians speak with an
accent <an “eh” is their favorite
expression). At first we thought
there might be a language har
rier when we got to Quebec, hut
the Scouts speak good English.
The Canadian Scout uniform
is a large campaign hat, a dark
green shirt, neckerchief, dark
blue pants, blue and green knee
socks, and green garters. The
Canadians have both long and
short pants, but one shirt. Cana
dian ranks are tenderfoot, sec
ond class, bushman's thong.
Queen's Scout, and green, red,
and gold cords.
This week we have traded
Scouts for dinner with the Cana
dian troops. Yesterday we went
to St. Jerome and ran into a
language problem. Bill Creel
ran up to a service station at
tendant to ask where a laundro
mat was. The service station at
tendant looks puzzled and says,
“Pardon.” After several similar
happenings we found a laundro
mat by ourselves.
Today all the camp flags are
flying at half mast because of
REAL ESTATE
the plane crash with the Fili
pino Scouts. At 2:30' there was
a medley relay and we placed
fifth and seventh.
