Green Will Write
Bennett Place Play
Chapel Hill Playwright Paul
Green will write a play for the
Bennett Place centennial cele
bration in Durham on April 26,
1965.
The play will cover closing
scenes of the Civil War brought
about by the signing of the John
ston-Sherman peace treaty. Unity
will serve as the central theme
of the play.
R. 0. Everett, Durham attorn
ey, said Mr. Green will present
plans for his play at a meeting •
in the Jack Tar Hotel Sept. 19
Church Will Hold
Picnic Tomorrow
Camp New Hope will be the
scene tomorrow of a parish pic
nic given by the Church of the
Holy Family. Since this outing
was planned with a wide variety
of age groups in mind the ves
try is hoping that a large group
will attend.
The picnic will begin at 4.00
p.m. with swimming, baseball
and other outdoor activities for
those so inclined and just watch
ing for the less energetic of the
group. Each family is to be re
sponsible for its own picnic sup
per, beverage, utensils and blank
ets. If anyone has questions re
garding the picnic or how to
reach Camp New Hope, they can
call the parish office 942-2357.
GRID CALL
All CHHS boys who plan to go
out for Football this year are re
quested to report to the gym
nasium at 9 a.m. Monday,
August 19, to receive their
equipment. Coach Bob Culton
states that uniforms will not be
issued to those who have not
had their physical examinations.

of the Durham-Orange Historical
Society and the Bennett Place
Memorial Commission.
Mr. Everett, who heads both
the groups, said Mr. Green will
also disclose at that time a pro
posal that an indoor theater be
established in Durham to house
a community drama on the
evolution of Piedmont Carolina
from agricultural to an industrial
way of life. The community ploy
would continue to run on a per
■ manent basis.
Plans for the theater have
been in the making for some
time, Mr. Everett said, and a
scale model for the theater has
been devised. But the city for
the site of the theater has not
yet been chosen.
If Durham should be chosen as
the drama would depict
the city as typical of the trans
format ion-tfrom agriculture to in
dustry.
