Charles Collier of Salisbury, a.
father textile executive, is found
er and president of the Mill Fab
rics chain. Mr. Collier opened the
first Mill Fabric unit to Charlotte
in 1951 by adding a retail store
to a section devoted to a whole
sale warehouse.
The next year he opened a sec
ond store in Charlotte. In 1955
more Stores wef* opened, in Kan
napolis, Lynchburg, Virginia, and
two in Ridnltad.
The wholesale warehouse Was
moved to Salisbury to serve the
units more effectively.
In 1957 two more Stores were
opened in Columbia, S. C., and
in 1999 the 10th store was rt*ned
in Salisbury, Where the firm’s
home office is.
Another store was opened in 1960
in Greenville, and since then
stores have been opened in High
Point and Statesville.
Goods for the units are obtain
ed primarily from mills in North
Carollha and adjacent states.
Thus, according to Mr. Graham,
toe Mill htorid Stores are able
to offer lower prices in many
fields than can be offered by the
usual piece goods departments.
