The Frank Porter Graham
Elementary School PTA held its
first meeting recently in the
school cafeteria. Many parents
and friends were present.
Following the call to order by
the president, Mrs. Inez Minor,
Mr. W. W. Edmonds, principal,
stressed the importance of the
grading system and the children
using time wisely for studying.
Mr. Edmonds also introduced the
new teachers.
An anticipated budget of S7OO
was given by the president. From
this budget the PTA plans to
accomplish the following: (at fur
nish for the lobby (b) improve
ment of the school lawn (c) se
secure patrol outfits <d) provide
expenses for educational field
trips.
The PTA membership drive
started at the meeting and will
end at the next meeting.
The next PTA meeting will be
held Thursday, November 15, in
the school cafeteria at 7:30 p.m. 4
The first half hour will be used
for parent-teacher conferences.

In Auto Accident
Two UNC students, one of them
the son of hapel Hill Town Mana
ger Robert Peck, were injured
when the car in which they were
riding turned over just this side
of Cary Saturday night.
James Robert Peck, 21. is in
fair condition at Memorial Hospi
tal after losing an eye and suffer
ing brain damage and broken
bones when thrown from the car.
Benjamin Wyche IV of Charlotte
suffered a leg injury but was not
hospitalized.
Patrolman C. N. Spain
said Mr. .Peek was driving west
on NC 54 about half a mile west
of the Cary town limits when the
car left the highway and over
turned.
Mr. Peck was first taken to
Rex Hospital for emergency treat
ment, then was transferred to
Memorial Hospital here.
Trooper Spain said ambulance
attendants told him Mr. Wyche
was wearing a seat belt, but that
Mr. Peck was not.

Thomas R. Harward Funeral Tomorrow
Funeral services will be held at
2 p.m. tomorrow for Thomas Ruf
lin Harward, who died yesterday
afternoon in Watts Hospital in
Durham. Mr. Harward had been
in declining health for several
years, in critical condition for
two weeks. He was 85.
The services will be conducted
in Walker's Funeral Home Chap
el by the Rev. Henry Turlington.
