The material gathered by Dr. Brown in collaboration with toe North Carolina Folklore Society has been published in six vol umes (with the seventh soon to appear) by Duke University Press. Duke University Press plans to exhibit a set of ”The Frank C. Brown Collection of North Carolina Folklore” at the meeting. Phene *MMI The County Agent’s Column Ed Banes, Orange County Fain Agent COMMUNITY AWARDS At the dinner meeting of the North Central Area Develop ment Association recently held in Durham, the St. Mary’s Com munity representing Orange County won second place in toe area contest. The Pleasant Green Community also won second place in toe new com munity category for toe area. Both communities received cash awards of $125. In the Orange County awards program. Orange Grove received a second place awqrd and a check for $75. The New Hope Community was placed third and received SSO. Schley Community was named fourth and received a check for $25. Certificates were awarded to the Buckhorn and Caldwell Communities. The Orange Coun ty Community Development Program is sponsored jointly by the North Carolina National Rank of Chapel Hill and the Hillsboro Branch of the Central Carolina Bank and Trust Com pany. GOOD SOYBEAN YIELD James and Charles Snipes, of the Orange Grove Community, are very pleased with their production of soybeans. This year they had 65 acres of soy beans; about one-half were planted in rows and the others half broadcast. The soybeans planted in rows yielded between 25 and 35 bushels per acre, and toe broadcast beans yielded be tween 20 and 25 bushels per acre. The Snipes (Brothers feel that this is a good way to utilize their land and labor that is not being used in their dairy opera tion.
