Page 6 Extracurricular A rather slender stockingful of entertainment in Chapel Hill and Carrboro far Christmas week. MOVIES Carolina Theater- Today through Tuesday: ‘‘The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm,” Laurence Harvey, Karl Boehm, Claire Bloom, Wal ter Sletak, Barbara Eden, Oscar Homolka. Three Grimm fairy tales, with a biographical por tion about the fairy tales’ auth ors. Wflhelm and Jacob Grimm, filmed largely on locations in Bavaria and the Rhine Valley. The three tales are ‘‘The Danc ing Princess” (Yvette Mimieux, Russ Terrblyn, Jim Backus), “'('he Cobbler and the Elves” (Laurence Harvey, Walter Brooke, the Puppetoons). and ‘‘The Sinffing Bone” (Terry- Thomas, Buddy Hackett, Otto** Kruger). A good choice for a non-syrupy Christmas movie. Wednesday through Sunday: “Mutiny on the Bounty” (Bran do version), Marlon Brando as Fletcher Christian, Trevor Ho ward as Captain Bligh, and a lady named Tarita, who wears her sarong at hip level and her lei somewhere around the wish bone, as Maimiti, the Polynesian girl Marlon gets stuck on. Film ed at vast expense of time and money on the islands of Bora- Bora, Moorea and Tahiti, in super thingummy ultra whatnot. There arAa lot of natives and a lot of exciting sea scenes, and Marlon Brando in a naval pigtail is one of the funniest shocks since Yul Bryn ner shaved. Trevor Howard’s Captain Bligh is not exactly Charles Laughton’s, but Mr. Ho ward has his own.flavor. Pretty good flick, on the whole. If you don’t care for nautical adven ture-romance. there are at at least no snow scenes to re mind you of the weather out side. * * * Varsity Theater- Today: “Gypsy,”_ffalalie Wood, Kcsalind Russell, Karl Malden. Musical There was nothing ouite like burlesque, including this movie, but “ tcomes as close as it can to the real thing, tak ing a few pardonable liberties with the life story of Gypsy Rose Lee, without ceasing to be what is known in the trade as family entertainment. Teehni-this ami that, music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Monday: “The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone." Vivien Leigh, Warren Beatty. "In Rome there is a countess who ‘arranges’ University Issues Policy Statement The University has issued a policy statement on UNC stu dents' participation in anti:seg regation sit-ins. According to UNC Dean of Stu dent Affairs C. 0. Cathey, “the • names of all students who haye been arrested for trespass and resisting arrest have been for warded to the office of the stu dent Attorney General who will, upon the final disposition of each case by the North Carolina courts, forward said case to the appropriate student judicial coun cil for action.” Conviction by the University could result in penalties as stiff as expulsion. The statement was issued Friday afternoon follow ing a meeting of the UNC Deans of Men, Women, and Student Af fairs, the president and vice pres ident of the student body, and leaders of student judicial coun cils. Dean of Men William Long said J Christina* Ip ■ May you en i ol boluUy season!^ Santoro Tire & * Appliance Center things. If you are wealthy and no longer young, like Karen Stone, you cover your shame with perfume and you call the countess.” Don’t fail to miss it. Tuesday: “The Stripper," Jo anne Woodward, Richard Bey mer, Claire Trevor, Gypsy Rose Lee. Young man falls in love with somewhat tarnished form er friend of young man's mother. Somewhat Tarnished has be come an itinerant Stripper, which makes for strained family relations. Not bad. really, but not nearly as flaming as the posters indicate. Wednesday: “Donovan’s Reef,” John Wayne, Lee Marvin. Doro thy Lamour, Cesar Romero. Lee iMarvin is all right, but don’t watch anybody else except Eliz abeth Allen, who plays the pro per Bostonian girl melting into , the Polynesian surroundings. Thursday: “The Proud and the Profane,” William Holden, Deborah Kerr, Thelma Ritjer. “A woman betrayed by a mao— and her own emotions.” Again? Friday: “The Grass is Green er,” Cary Grant, Deborah Kerr, Robert Mitchum, Jean Sim mons. “The trouble with house parties is you never can tell which parties will end up play ing houie.” True. It is also true that the grass has become con siderably greener since this movie was made. Saturday: ’’Kings of the Sun," Yul Brynner, George Chakiris, Shirley Anne Field. Nothing known about it except that it con cerns “a lost world turned to a new world of adventure.” So kill a couple of hours and 75 cents and find out. At least it’s new. TELEVISION WUNC-TV, Channel 4 No Sunday programming until Jan. 12, no programs Tuesday or Wednesday this week and nothing particularly outstanding during the week anyway except high lights of UNC's football season Monday at 9 pm., Bob Quincy narrating and estimating the Tar Heels' potentiality against Air Force in the Gator Bowl next Saturday. SPORTS Nil. MISCELLANEOUS » . '<6 “Star of Bethlehem’' at the Morehead Planetarium, regular public performances given daily at 3 p.m. beginning tomorrow, i\ addition to the regular public performances at 8:30 p.m. daily. Worth it. that as of Thursday night 28 stu dents had been arrested, some of them more than once, for a total of 34 student arrests. Dean Long said the disparity resulted from some students being arrested, go ing free on bond, and being ar rested again in another sit-in. The policy s*atement: “A singular function of the state university is its social re sponsibility to the total commun ity. This University has tradi tionally directed efforts for a more perfect realization of the democratic ideals. Such is the duty of the ‘State’ university as it has been conceived. “It is apparent that the fabric of democracy is dependent upon its commitment to the necessity of law in the ordering of human activity. The educational insti tution cannot then condone the wilful disobedience of the laws, aside from the merits, demerits, or employment of particular laws. “Consequently, in accordance with established University pol icy, the names of all students who have been arrested for tres pass and resisting arrest have been forwarded to the office of the student Attorney General who will, upon the final disposition of each case by the North Caro lina courts, forward said case to the appropriate student judi cial council for action.” Dean Cathey said in explana tion of the statement that it was “just clearing the atmosphere in case anyone wonders what Uni versity policy is. It’s nothing new.” STATISTICS COLLOQUIUM Mr. G. G. J. Van Zyl will ad dress a UNC Statistics Colloqu ium on Monday. January 6, on “Inventory Models for Perfh able Commodities,” in 265 Phil lips Hall at 4 p.m. The topic of his lecture is part of his doctor al dissertation in which he pro poses and analyzes theoretically some inventory models tor per ishable commodities. This re search was motivated by some studies of Professor Robert El ston. formerly of this University, on blood bank inventories at the N. C. Memorial Hospital. |-REAL ESTATE- REAL ESTATE REAL ESTATE w 9 MiiiiirPn Sincirt Jwjuriyiw Tnoi you mey NV'vw • f UMm ti illart v to / 1 tnjoy ro mt iviivsr •vtry « Security Insurance and Realty Corn.
