Candlelight Service At Lutheran Church
The annual Christinas Eve Can
dlelight Service at Holy Trinity
Lutheran Church wiH be held
Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Pastor
David W. Herb will preach -the
sermon and Pastor Frank C.
Perry will lead in the liturgy
and in the candlelighting cere
mony. The theme of the service
will be "Our Lord Immanuel.”
The service will be in the
form of Vespers, including scrip
ture lessons, canticles and carols
sung by the congregation and
choir. The choir, directed by

S. Philip Knisely, will present
four carols from the 14th, 15th
and 16th centuries—“ Remember,
O Thou (Man” by Ravencroft,
“Lo! a Roae” by Praetorius,
“Hie Coventry Carol”* and
“Parthenia Carol”, English and
Italian carols respectively. Mrs.
Walter C. Carter, organist, will
play “Noel in G” by Daquin and
“ T n Dulci Jubilo” by Bach.
John Benson and Paul Herb will
serve as acolytes. Ushers will be
Joe Augustine, Russell N.
Perry, James M. Phillips and
Richard L. Davis.
The service will end with the
traditional candlelight ceremony
or Feast of Lights. Light from
the altar candles will be passed
to all persons in attendance, us
ing candles provided. The sym
bolism is that light from Jesus
Christ, the Light of the World,
is passed on to all people every
where.

BANK LEADERS HONORED—
Collier Cobb Jr. fright), former chair
man of the Board of the Bank of Chapel
Hill, and Clyde Eubanks, former presi
dent of the bank, were presented the
bronze plaque taken from the front of
the bank building at the bank’s annual
Christmas party last week. Mr. Eu
banks was unable to be present for the

IN APPRECIATION—The N.C. National Bank’s
Chapel Hill office and its employees presented difts
of appreciation Wednesday night to W. E. Thompson
who is retiring Dec. 31 as vice president, Mr. Thomp
son was ill and couldn’t attend. The gifts were pre
sented to Mrs. Thompson by Dr. D. D. Carroll, a mem
ber of the Board. The Bank presented Mr Thompson
a typewriter, and the employees gave him a typewrit
er stand and filing cabinet. The presentation was made
at the Bank’s annual Christmas party at the Country
Club.

Hie Holstein-Friesian Associa
tion of America has announced
a new lactation average for the
registered Holstein nerd of Teer
Brothers, Chapel Hill, which has
34 completed production records
averaging 15,161 lbs. of milk and
585 lbs. of butterfat.
Lactation averages are calcu
lated on the commonly-employed
two-milkings a day, 305 days,
mature equivalent basis. This
provides a uniform basis for
comparison and selection in reg
istered Holstein breeding pro
grams.
North Carolina State College
supervised the weighing and test
ing of production as part of the
official herd testing programs
of the national Holstein organi
zation.

Latane, will appear on the next

Channel 4, Thursday night, Dec
ember 26th at 8:30.
Dr. Latane, son of Dr. Henry
A. Latane of the Department of
Economics at the University, is
a graduate of Chapel Hill High
school. He received his under
graduate degree from Yale Uni
versity and did graduate work
at Minnesota. He Is currently an
assistant professor of social psy
chology at Columbia University.
Thursday night's program will
investigate some of the ways in
which man is influenced and
changed by society. Hie effect

be demonstrated through experi
