influences in the C. I. O. National
Maritime Union have become so of
fensive as to bring about the resig
nation of two, of its officials in this
area.
Arthur Thomas, district executive
committee chairman of the Gulf dis
trict, resigned with the declaration
that he was opposed to the “bureau
cratic dictatorship” set up by the ‘'top
officialdom in New York” and to the
union having its “policies formed by
the Communist party.”
F. P. O’Donohue, business agent of
the Houston branch of the N. M. U.,
also resigned. It was his conviction
that “all the officials in the union who
do not go down the line with the
Communist party clique are being
hampered at every turn.”

meeting, at the home of Mrs. H. F.
Carriker. Mrs. C. T. Barger was joint
hostess.

elected to represent No. 107 at the
Forlth Worth Convention.

nineteenth annual meeting of the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers
and the Grand International Auxil
iary came to a close Wednesday with'
all chairmen of both groups reelected.
Tuesday the delegates chose New Or
leans as the 1940 convention city.
After final business sessions, the dele
gates went on a sight-seeing tiip to
Durham and Chapel Hill. J. L.
Jones, Norfolk, Va., is chairman of
the Brotherhood, and Mrs. Mary E.
Crittenden, Norris, Tenn., is chairman
of the Auxiliary, George H. Bishop,
Jacksonville, Fla., was elected vice
chairman of the Brotherhood and H.
O. Denny, Atlanta, Ga., was re-elected
secretary-treasurer.
