LET’S KEEP AMERICA OUT OF WAR “KEEP US OUT OF WAR!” Bernarr McFadden, publisher of Liberty, in the issue of November 11, placed upon sale Monday of this week, carries an article on page four, which he heads “Keep Us Out of War!” We quote in part from this wonderful ar ticle: “Here is a slogan that is figura tively resounding from the house tops throughout this nation. “Senators, legislators of all classes, business men, leaders in all walks of life are firm in their conviction that we should not be drawn into another World War. x x x “We hate war worse than the devil hates holy water. VWe Americans have been taught to be humane as well as human. Undoubtedly we have somewhat overdone humanita rianism when we consider the brutal character of some European rulers. Gratitude was manifested liberally as long as favors were dispensed, but when they were withdrawn, the change was indeed surprising. “Our experience in the World War is still an embittered memory. We can recall also that war started us on a policy of gigantic spending that we have never been able to change . . . . in official quarters wasteful spend ing on a fantastic scale, x x x “The Allies thought they won the war, but we will have to admit at the present time it looks as though Ger many won it. x x x ■' “It has been stated before on this page that a nation is not unlike an in dividual. It passes through infancy, early youth, and into the power and vigor of complete maturity, and then gradual decay ensues. And because of the barrage of prop aganda that we must expect, it might be difficult for us to maintain our balance. Our ships will be sunk. Our citizens will be murdered . . . plenty of them; and whether or not such tragedies are caused by our supposed enemies, they will nevertheless be blamed. On many occasions it will be diffi cult to check our natural resentment to outrages committed. But hurried action must be avoided in every in stance. We must keep out of this war . ^ . that iB the thought that should be uppermost in our minds at all times. There should be no more of our soldiers sent to Europe. We should be able to defend our own soil to the very limit .... fight with ev erything we have to protect our na tionla freedom. We spent billions to organize and build up the war-torn nations in the last World War, and we must remem ber that billions of this indebtedness is still unpaid. It is often stated that experience is the best teacher. But when we ignore the lessons it brings, we are beyond hope. “Keep up out of war! ... It cannot be repeated too often.” J. & J. C. “The Stars and Stripes Forever” j OUR BOYS FIGHTING UNDER THIS FLAG IN THE WORLD WAR DID THEIR PART TO “SAVE THE WORLD FOR DEMOCRACY”; LETS NOW SAVE OUR BOYS FOR DEMOCRACY" Keep America Out of the War The theme song of the American Federation of Labor, as it should be of all labor, is KEEP AMERICA OUT OF WAR. The worker pays the toll to the Grim Reaper; the worker and his dependents suffer from the high coat of living; the work er in days of depression after the war, whoever the victor, will of necessity be the loser, and a scene of sadness and depriva tion and panic will follow as it did when Roosevelt came upon the scene and closed our banks to save the country, and when we saw the birth of Relief, from which America has never been able to break away from. To be true America can not live alone, but we can at least keep our hands off of War until it comes to our door. America is not a weakling, neither are its patriotic citizens, but having once “SAVED THE WORLD FOR DEMOCRACY,” and seeing our disabled veterans to day in pitiful plight, and realizing as we do the fact that “the world was not saved for democracy," let us plead, pray and work to KEEP AMERICA OUT OF WAR.
