Various organisation possibilities were discussed at length, and a special meeting called for after the close of the regular meeting. Many locals, are negotiating contracts at this time.1 A letter from Wm. Green, president of the A. F. of L. re draft boards was complied with, and concurred in. Tne Charlotte body was asked for help in some unfair discrimination which is taking place in city employes’ seniority, and a committee of three, H. L. Kiser, J. A. Moore and W. B. Pope, were authorized to appear be fore the city manager regarding same. The civil service matter of the city I employes was also handled, and the same committee authorized to assist in any way they see fit. The Fire Fighters, with 100 per cent membership, were given the pledge of the A .F. of L., after their credentials had been received. Brothers T. L. Keeter and P. L. Government Registers 3,500,000 Aliens Mori* than 3,500,000 aliens residing in the United States will begin registering with federal authorities throughout the country beginning August 27. The registration period will require four months to complete, (very alien will be fingerprinted and required to answer a questionnaire to test his attitude toward Amer ican institutions. President Promotes Pan-American Friendship Pan-American unity, given impetus at the recent Havana conference, received further promotion when members of the South American delegations were entertained by President and Mrs. Roosevelt on the fam ily estate at Hyde Park, N. Y. The President shouts over the heads of cameramen for his car so that he can take the. wives of the delegates for a ride around the estate. Delegations from Argentine, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay were among the South Americans entertained. Present at a luncheon in honor of the delegates was Capt. Joseph M. Patterson, New York publisher.
