Management And
Union Co-operation
Urged By A. F. of L.
MIAMI, Fla.—A resolution on the
extension of cooperation between ia
bor unions and management intro
duced at the 1940 convention of the
American Federation of Labor was
discussed by the A. F. of L. Execu
tive Council at its mid-winter meet
ing here. The resolution, sponsored
by several unions active in the rail
way industry, directed Mr. Green to
create a committee “to plan for a
service agency to counsel union man
agement undertakings.”
Ths resolution was not adopted by
the convention but was referred to
the Executive Council, which directed
the Federation officers to confer with
those interested in furthering cooper*
ation between unions and manage
ment. The officers were requested
to obtain all information possible and
to report at the spring meeting of.
the Council in Washington.
In connection with this resolution,
Mr. Green explained that a union*
management cooperation plan on the
Baltimore 4 Ohio Railroad had been
furthered by the railroad unions, un
der direction of Otto S. Beyer, an
engineer, now a member of the Na
tional Mediation Board.

UNION LABEL ELECTRICAL SUPPLIES
>' In the illustration above the consumer will fin! a few of the numerous articles which are made
under Union conditions. These and additional electrical supplies that are Union-made can be pur
chased at the present time. Labof Unionists, their families and friends should always demand the
Union Label on all purchases.
Recently the Union Label Trades Department received a letter from a member of a Labor Union
stating that he had succeeded in placing Union Label goods in a chain of one hundred stores through
out his entire State. This is just another evidence of the increased demand for the Union Label, Shop
Card and Service Button.
I. M. Ornburn, Secretary-Treasurer of the Union Label Trades Department of the American Fed
eration of Labor, urgently requests members of Labor Unions, Women's Auxiliaries and their friends
to always ask for the Union Label and to insist upon it after a reasonable length of time has been
given to local merchants to place Union-made articles on their shelves.
If American Labor expects to maintain the high standards it has established, it is necessary to buy
the products which are made under those conditions. Collective bargaining must be sustained by col
lective buying.

A group of Charlotte policemen and

Upwards of 50 residents of Char

Meanwhile, Chairman James B.

that to date he had received no formal

his colleagues before taking any ac

Good News To Dieters
If you are one of those dieters
who fears that Ice cream may be
fattening, yet finds it difficult to re
sist your favorite dessert on a hot
day, you will be interested in this
little story and its Tecipe.
It deals with an ice cream that
contains three times as much milk
and orange juice as cream, without
sacrificing any of its rich, full flavor
and smoothness. The deceptively
expensive - looking parfait pictured
consists of this ice cream, combined
with a lengthwise slice of banana, a
dab of whipped cream, a trickle of
whipped currant jelly arid a cherry.
If you are very, very sensitive about
your weight you may even eliminate
the whipped cream.
This rennet-custard ice cream is
smooth and full-flavored in spite of
the fact that it is made without
eggs and with approximately one
fourth of the total liquid in the form
of cream — half to one-eighth ps
much cream as is usually used. It
requires no cooking, is easily di
gested and has a much lower caloric
value than the usual tasty of this
type.
Follow these simple directions
and you’ll have a dessert that will
delight — whether you are a dieter
or not:
Orange Banana Parfait
