DON’T FORGET THE X (Subject to Primary, April 26) Red Cross Ships Supplies For Our Men Overseas WASHINGTON, D. C.—Doughnut flour and shortening, sufficient to make a million and a half doughnuts for American servicemen in North Africa, are part of a huge shipment of supplies recently cleared from the United States, the Red Cross reports. Twenty portable pianos for Red Cross clubs and Red Cross hospital recreation rooms established in Tuni sia also were in the shipment. Other items were two tons of chocolate bars, one ton of coffee, many tons of com fort and recreational items—such as shaving cream, soap, razors and blades, bedside games, table games— and thousands of books and maga zines. The doughnut flour and coffee are chiefly for use in the Red Cross club mobiles now plying the roads of North Africa to carry comfort to American fighting men in isolated flying fields or other outposts. To maintain sup plies for the clubmobiles, the Red Cross expects to ship monthly 300 barrels of doughnut flour, 15,000 pounds of shortening and several tons of coffee. AFL Artists Go Overseas With Troops WASHINGTON, D. C.—A total of 266 entertainers in 45 units have been sent to entertain troops overseas, the Office of War Information reported in a review of overseas work of USO Camp Shows, Inc. Practically all of these entertainers are members of AFL unions. This represents a considerable sac rifice of time, comfort and money by those who are trouping abroad, the OWI said. Many have gone by boat through submarine-infested waters, and those who have gone by plane have not always found the trip to be I free of danger. Three traveling USO entertainers — Maxine March, tap dancer; Christine Street, accordionist and singer, and Adelaide Joy, singing comedienne—were killed in a Royal Canadian Air Force accident near Vancouver, B. C., on March 27, and two others—the singer, Tamara, and Roy Rognon, the comedian and dancer —lost their lives in the crash of the Yankee Clipper in the Tagus River at Lisbon on February 22.
