Walsh, who wm recently released from the U. S. Army, has become associated with the Union Label Trades Depart ment in connection with the AFL Union Label and Industrial Exhi bition to be held October 29 to No vember 3, 1946, at the Municipal Auditorium in St. Louis, Missouri. I. M. Ornbom, Secretary-Treasurer of that department of the Ameri can Federation of Labor and direc tor of the exhibition, made the an nouncement this week. Mr. Walsh is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. He maj ored in commercial engineering. He was business agent for a local union of the International Hod Car riers, Building and Common La-1 borer’s Union of America in Cin-' cinnati and later became an A.F. of L. organiser. “Jim” Walsh first became asso ciated with the Union Label Trades department in 1938, at the time of the Union Label and Industrial Ex hibition in Cincinnati. letter, he was apponted chief, Division of Minimum Wage, for the State of Ohio, which position he resgned in 1942 to enlist in the U. S. Army. During his service he was assigned to fill many important duties. He rose rapidly to the rank of Major. WAGENET SUCCEEDS CLAGUE IN SOCIAL SECURITY POST Washington, D. C.—Appointment of Robert G. Wagenet as director of the Employment Security Bu reau, Social Security Administra tion, was announced by A. J. Alt meyer, Social Security Adminis trator. He will succeed Ewan Clague, who resigned to become Director of the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Wagenet, named as the first di rector of the Employment Compen sation Bureau of the security agen cy in 1936, resigned six years ago to head the State Employment Di vision in California. After three years in that post he joined the Marin Shipbuilding Co. in Cali fornia. A native of San Diego, Wagenet is a graduate of the Uni versity of California. PICKETING CONSTITUTIONAL Denver—The Colorado law ban ning picketing by strikers was de clared unconstitutional by the Col orado District Court, which ruled that restrictions on peaceful pick eting for any reason violate the free speech clauses of the consti tution.
