tion contracts in this State reached

the State Drector of Reconstruc
tion and Re-employment. The U.
S. Chamber of Commerce esti
mated that there was a 1.2 bil
lion dollars in private construc
tion in California last year, and
added to this, another 265 mil
lion dollars in public works for
which contracts were awarded
during the year.

here when the Alabama Supreme
I Court tossed out a drastic strike
breaking injunction and held that
the closed shop is still legal in
this* State.
STORE CLERKS GET RAISE
San Francisco, Calif.—The De
partment Store Employees’ Union
(AFL) signed a contract for em
ployes of 27 stores outside the
downtown district, which gave a
$6 weekly raise and a 6-day 40
i hour week. The new scale will
raise pay to $40 to $51 weekly.
