TRUMAN LAUDS DUBINSKY AS “TOWER OF STRENGTH” The Jewish Labor Committee tendered a testimonial dinner to David Dubinsky, president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, who is attending sessions of the AFL Executive Council meeting in Chicago. Among the felicitations received by Mr. Dubinsky was a letter from President Truman, praising the labor leader. Mr. Truman said: “David Dubinsky has been a tower of strength in the labor movement. He has never lost sight of the fundamen tal principle under our free economic system that manage ment and labor are associates who work together for their mutual benefit and for the benefit of the public.' As one who has always stood four-square for true Americanism, he deserves the thanks and appreciation of good citizens everywhere.” / Wash Hands Before Eating Urged as Polio Precaution Parents should see that chil dren wash bauds thoroughly before eating as tjgn precau tion against potto, particularly during the summer epidemic season, according to the Na tional Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. McCann from his position as general counsel for the House sub-committee investigating labor disputes in Hollywood. In calling for McCann’s removal from office, the Council issued the following statement: “The Executive Council demands the immediate removal; from office of Irving G. McCann, General. Counsel for the j House Labor Subcommittee which is investigating labor disputes in Hollywood. “Mr. McCann demonstrated his unfitness when, at the Sub-committee’s recent hearings in Los Angeles, he physi cally attacked Joseph A. Padway, Chief Counsel for the American Federation of Labor and grossly insulted AFL witnesses, particularly Vice President William C. Doherty, a member of this Council. “Mr. McCann’s conduct was a disgrace to Congress and a shocking insult to the American Federation of Labor and the 7,500,000 American workers it represents. “The subsequent apologies made by, and in behalf of. Mr. McCann cannot erase his misbehavior nor restore pub lic confidence in the fairness of the investigation. “The only way the House Labon Committee can repudi ate his reprehensible tactics is by discharging him. If the committee retains him in office, the American Federation jjf £abor will be forced to conclude that it approves his inexcusable and indefensible conduct.’* > YOUR FUTURE ^ PLANS The plans you are making for your future should include a sys tematic Savings Account.
