Mb PROBITY warn FOR MR UNE TBPS By DAN SMITH, Chicago Correspondent AFI, News Service Chicago. — David L. Behncke. president of the AFL Air Line Pilots Association, demanded that commercial airline traffic should be given priority over all other kinds of flying in the interest of safety. (In Washington, Behncke’s un ion submitted a set of recom mendations detailing its views on the same day that the Civil Aero nautics Administration said it would assume control over all Lhtra to BELK'S SANTA CLAUS BROADCAST ■ Each evening except Sunday WSOC.. . 6 to 6:15 WAYS... 6:45 to 7 jNavy and Air Force lights to pre vent recurrence of the Washing ton Airport mid-air crash which killed 55 persons in the nation’s ■worst flying tragedy.) “Traffic problems are daily be coming more acute,” Behncke said, “because of larger and faster equipment — speeds that have dim tied to 300 mph and are fast moving into the 500 mph range. The increase in the num-1 her of smaller aircraft, which are also growing faster and less man euverable, has added to the has- i ard.” Behncke said all aircraft car-' rying passengers for hire should be marked with a uniform mark 1 ing easily legible during day I light hours and running lights ’ for night travel should have a' distinct pattern and special flash ing characteristics. J “Air passengers pay to get to their destinations quickly and safely,” he said. “Airline traf fic is a vital part of the nation's commerce. All other aircraft are ! not on schedule, and most of the | time are just up there flying around. “They should not be permitted i ' to obstruct dangerously the air lanes and the landing areas that are roadways in the skies for regularly-scheduled air line planes. ' “The so-called stacking of air-, craft and circling air traffic pat terns around busy fields like Washington National Airport should not include all manner of aircraft. Planes other than scheduled commercial air liners should «-be«diverted and required to land or 'hold’ elsewhere until all air liners have landed or cleared the airport on take-off.” The union is supporting legis lation pending in the Senate and House of Representatives to re establish the Independent Air Safety Board to have sole respon sibility for national air safety. Behncke urged public support of the measures. “The price of further delay,” he said, “will be more deplorable and needless loss of human life." MYSELF At we examine ourselves in the light of what Christ can make of u*. may we not confess with an anonymous poet: “I have to live with myself, and so I want to be fit for myself to know; I want to be able as the days go by Always to look myself straight in the eye. I don’t want to stand, with the setting sun And hate myself for the things I’ve done. I don’t want to keep on a’closet shelf A lot of secrets about myself. And fool myself as I come ant' go. Into thinking that nobody else will know That kind of a man that' I really am; I don’t want to dress up myself in sham. I want to go out with my head erect; I want to deserve all men's re spect; But here in the struggle for fame and pelf I want to he able to like myself I don’t want to look at myself an«’ know That I’m bluster and bluff am’ empty-show. I never can fool myself; and so Whatever happens, I want to be Self-respecting and consicence free.” THE BEST OF THE BIBLE) 1. . . by every word of God.” Luke 4:4 2. . . but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye.” Luke 6:41. 3. “. . . do not tj»e things that I say?” Luke 6:46. 4. “. . . from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.” Luke 8:18. 5.
