HIGH IDEALS ARE
GLIDING INFLUENCE
In the beginning all »u dark
Reus and ignorance. Men fwiht
bitter dealhs, persecuted, tortured
and murdered ene another, think
ing little of it u Ion* as their
purely physical wants aad lusts
were satisfied. Then gradually,
ss a light slowly illuminated the
obscurity of night, came advane*-;
merit, enlightenment, education
and — high ideals. High ideals
of service, love for one’s fellow
man, and duty, loyalty. High
ideals are a guiding influence {for
the well meant but sometimes
misdirected efforts of man to ele
vate himself from the level of
baseness. They are, therefore,
the hope of civilisation, the driv
ing force which causes us to look
forward to a better future for the
entire race. Let us all have ideals
of something. Without them one
cannot hope to even improve him
self, not to speak of leaving his
imprint on the history of human
progress.
THE VOICE OF THE
. VACANT PEW
Can the inanimate speak? We
sometimes say that vacant seats
never talk, but they do. They do
not whisper, but they talk out
loud. Sometimes they almost
drown out the preacher's voice.
And what they say inevitably
cools ardor, dampens enthusiasm
for the church. The more vacant
seats there are to talk, the less
do strangers and visitors think of
the church. Vacant seats belittle
the cause of Christ, they actually
misrepresent Christ They repre
sent Him as unreal to men and
women of the world who have
never tested His reality. What
do vacant seats that should be oc
cupied by church members say?
Well, these are some of the words
—indifference, neglect, preoccu
jmtion, worldly-mlndedncss, self
ishness. Of course, there are §1
ways some vacant seats that
speak in other terms.- • They say
sickness. They say misfortune
They say unavoidable absence
from the city. And the great
God never looks upon these va
cant seats with anything but
tenderizes and compassion. But
what of the others?

“WHEN DADDY HOLDS
MY HAND**
By Alrt HimcIw MtrtnMn
Upon a rocky trail one day
I mat a friendly pair.
A father a ad his little lad;
A storm was in the air,
The precipice was dangerous.
The wind was coming on.
But on that child’s trusting face
Was joyfulness and calm.
My own heart quaked a bit with
fear
Of what might lie ahead.
But when 1 said “Aren’t you
afraid?"
The laddie shook his head
Astonished at my ignorance,
“O, you don’t understand.
Why, Mister, I can’t be afraid
When Daddy holds my hand!"
That little child’s confidence
Uplifted me that day,
And piany times I’ve thought of I
*
Upon life’s rocky way;
How prone we adults are to fret
When future days look drear,
Forgetting that the Father's |
heart *
The Father's hand is near!
Let’s cast our cares—our fears'on ’
Him!
Our heavenly Home is bright;
What matters if our pathway
here
Leads sometimes through the
night?
Afraid? Let's answer with the
little lad,
“O you don’t understand.
Why, Mister, 1 can’t be afraid
When Father holds my hand!”

Printing
Letter press printing in the graphic arts
means the direct application of inked type
and engravings or- ether type material to
paper.
It is the simplest of all graphic methods
of reproduction and at the same time the
most lasting. It was the method employed
by the medieval craftsmen who first ap
plied.' type to paper and it has persisted
throughout the centuries over all innova
tions, until today, when, the best of crafts
manship is sought in a Job, there is no al
ternative to letter press printing, along
with high grade paper and typographic
good taste.
