How to Educate YOU TELL ON YOURSELF You tell on yourself by the friends you seek. By the very rdanncr in which you speak. By the way you employ your lei sure time. By the use yon make of dollar and dime. Yon tell what you are by the things you wear. By the spirit in which your bur dens bear. By the kind of things at which you laugh. By theh records you play on the phonograph. You tell %h»t you are * by the way you walk. By the things of which you de light to talk. By the books you choose from the well-filled shelf: In these ways and more, you tell ou yourself; So there’s really no particle of sense In an effort to keep up false pre tense. T-H SOLO SHORT ON FREE BARGAIN Tamiment, Pa.—The vast in fluence exercised by Samuel Gompers on the growth of or ganized labor and democratic in stitutions in this country was emphasized in speeches made at the 16th annual conference of the Tamiment Social and Eco nomic Institute held by the AFL International Ladies Garment Workers Union. “Samuel Gompers was the Ab raham Lincoln of the American labor movement.” Ralph Wright, Assistant Secretary of Labor, who headed a long list of dis tinguished speakers, told the conference. Other speakers were heard by the conference on the subject, “Gompers — and a Century of Labor.” Dr. George W. Taylor, Uni versity of Pennsylvania professor and former War Labor Board chairman, noting that Gompers had always stressed the value of collective agreements voluntarily reached, said that the basic de fect in the approach of Taft Hartley Act proponents was their lack of faith in the ability of labor and management to resolve their conflicts intelligently and fairly. He said that Congress, in passing the Taft-Hartley Act had “sold short on the ability of union and industrial leaders to work out their pwn solutions,” and had “unreasonably and in accurately assumed” that Con gress could better reach such so lutions through “inflexibly legis lation” than the people directly concerned. “Collective bargaining, which the country has accepted as na tional policy since the New Deal, requires a meeting of minds,” the former War Labor Board chairman declared. "Neither in junctions nor government seiz ure of plants, as I have good reason to know, contributes to ward this end.” HONOR BLAIR Los Angeles. — The AFL Na tional Newsletter of the Com munity Chest and Councils of America called the doth of Aubrey Blair on Hay 27, 1950, prominent Los Angeles A P L leader, “a shock and distinct loss to his countless friends in organ ised labor and Community Chests and Councils.” HAVE YOU ROOM FOR ’ HIM? Great Grace comes 4gwn each Chriatmastide. As once in days of yore; He knocks, and will not be de nied— Waits, knocking, at thy door. Oh, open to Him, burdened heart, And bid Him enter In; His touch will take away the smart Of long-remembered sin. And if He stay with thee, my friend. And if thou see His face, Thy Christmastide shall never end— Sharing His given grace.—Se lected. Declare your independence by buying Independence Bonds. SOUTHERN FRUIT CO.
