FEDERAL BEIT UD WILL £10 DEC. 31 Washington. — President Tru man is due te sign a measure ending federal rent controls next December 31. The bill was passed by Houae and Senate to help members get through the election next No If Congress now follows its past practice of crippling seat control by appropriating insuffi cient funds for its administration, then even the 6 month’s exten- | sion will be lax. Local governments can keep federal rent controls after De cember 31 until June 30, 1951, if they vote to do ao and so advise the federal government. Central and local labor unions will be wise to begin now to plan a campaign to have rent controls extended in their cities. Most APL members are still un der federal rent controls and ro moral of these curbs would mean a sudden increase in family ex penditures for millions of union families throughout the country.
