of approbation from the children,
or do you find real enthusiasm lack
in*? Believe it or not, it all de
pends upon the pot roast you serve.
There are pot roasts that are
tender and tasty; pot roasts that
are seasoned so that the first bite
assures the diner of an enjoyable
meat dish; and. sad to say, pot
roasts that are merely "pot roasts”,
if you catch my idea.
The pot roast rec.pe presented
herewith will give you several good
suggestions for making that per
fect main-course dish. Perhaps you
will find the hint about seasoning
one of the most valuable. The
addition of the Worcestershire
Sauce gives an added and an un
usual f.. /or. Incidentally, It should
be key•: on hand at all times, for
use w.fh vegetables and soups as
well as meats. This Sauce, with
salt .<d pepper, constitute the
famous table trio of seasoners-. It's
a trio that should be on your table

Pet Roast
4 Ibe. rump of beet
1 tablespoon nit
2 tablespoons flour
Mi to 44 cup water
Small onion
Potato balls
Slices of carrot
* teaspoons tea * Perrins Sauce
2 tablespoons ketebup
Hare butcher roll meat and tie
with string. Wipe with a damp
cloth and dredge well with a mix*
ture of the nit and flour. Use a
heavy kettle. Brown meat on all

added. Pour % to % cup water

Hines Labels Peace
Petition A Phony

Representative Lewis G. Hines
joined with spokesmen for 12
other American organisations in
labeling the so-called “Stockholm
Peace Petition” a “phony peace
petition to disarm the United
States.”
The organisations are repre
sented in the All-American Con
ference to Combat Communism.
Mr. Hines and the ' 12 other
spokesmen said:
“The circulation, under the di
rection of the Communist party,
of the phony peace petition to
; disarm the United States is in
keeping with its historic proce
dure of infiltrating and later par
alyzing a nation which it wishes
to invade. -
"This petition was initiated at
the recent so-called peace con
ference at Stockholm. All men
kindly disposed toward their fel
lows favor peace.
"We favor peace, but we are
forced to conclude that the na
tions which have associated them
selves with this alleged peace
move are aggressors, not peace
makers."
Pointing out that 1,000,000
Americans had already signed
the petition, the group expressed
the hope that “no other Ameri
cans or organizations will be
caught in this trap."
FTC ASKED TO CITE
RACKETEERING PRESS

tional Labor Press of America
has requested the Federal Trade
Commission to help eliminate
“racket” newspapers.
The appeal followed recent
FTC action against a paper pub
lished in Philadelphia for mis
representing its true nature and
thereby defrauding the public.
ILPA Secretary-Treasurer Lew
is M. Herrman said in a letter
to FTC Chairman James Mead
that a number of such racket
sheets operate in various parts
of the country, “fleecing the pub
lic. and, particularly, employers
friendly to labor, of hundreds of
thousands of dollars annually by
posing as editorial spokesmen for
organized labor.”
