LIFE’S BETTER WAY
By Rev. Walter E. Iwnhoar
Route 4, High Point, N. G
It'» (rut to find lite’t better way
And walk therein from day to day:
To pray and hope and entile and-stag.
And to the right forever cling.
NO REGRET IN LOVE
We never regret loving God j
and mankind. However, there ia
a regTet, sooner or later, to every
heart and soul that does not love
God and his fellowmen. It is aa
sure to come as night follows
day, and as day follows night.
And regret is something that ia
unpleasant. Some times it.burns
and stings the very heart, con
science and soul until one cannot
rest day and night,
God’s way is the way of love.
The devil’s way is the way of
hate. God’s way always works
right and brings the best results.
The devil’s way always works
wrong, and brings the wrong re
sults. It is a thousand times
better to love a man than to bate
him.
"Well,” you say, "some people
are so mean I can’t love them.”
That is true from the standpoint
of the human, but it isn’t true
from the standpoint of the Di
vine. God can give us such love
for Himself until we can love
wicked men. Jesus loves than.
He died for them. He even tells
us to love our enemies, pray for
them and do good for evil. This
is His way, but the devil’s way
is to hate our enemies and do
evil for evil. The reason way
the world is in such a dreadful
condition today, rent and tor*
with war, is because men hate
men and return evil for evil.
We admit that it takes the love
of God shed abroad in the heart
to enable us to love one another.
Nothing' short of this will do.
Especially is this true when it
comes to loving our enemies,
praying for them and returning
good for evil. However, this is
God’s plan and way for us to
live by. It is a glorious plan and
way. It brings about wonderful
results. We feel so much bettor
when we love men than when we
hate them. Life to us is far
sweeter and happier. It is far
sweeter and happier to others
also. Praise the Lord.
It is true we may have ene
mies regardless of how much wo
love God and man, but we dent
have to be an enemy to anyone.
There is such blessedness in lov
ing God and humanity until wo
caa say in the language of the
Psalmist: “My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me all the days of my
life: and I will dwell in the house
of the Lord forever.” This makes

A MISFIT
It's better far to stammer truth
Than smoothly tell a lie;
You'd better be an offcast youth
The proud world passes by,
Than measure high in social
rings,
With wrong be in accord,
While in your heart no honor
sings
And offer no reward.
You’d better have a eonacience
clear.
Although you walk alone,
Than ftt into the crowds that
cheer
And claim you as their own.
While conscience lashes and con
demns
For what you know you are,
And promises no diadems
When you shall "cross the
bar."
Although you do not lit the world
In actions, styles and name;
No banners seem for you un
furled
Because you win no fame;
However, God holds in reserve
For more than man can give,
And all who faithfully will serve
With saints shall ever live.

EUROPE FEARS ELECTIONS
MAY MEAN LESS AID TO ’EM
"The immediate visible, and al
most unanimous European polit
ical and press reaction to the
American election is one of anx
iety and concern.”
That’s the way Roscoe Drum-j
mond. chief Washington corre
spondent of The Christian Sci- j
ence Monitor, now on leave with j
the Economic Co-operation Ad-i
ministration (ECA), sums up the
1950 elections in a column pub-1
lished on November 11.
"The . . . concern stems from i
the apprehension—never entirely i
overcome despite the series of j
postwar elections to the contraryi
—that the American people may j
be at the point of turning isela- j
tionist and that by withdrawing j
vigorous leadership, America i
might leave the free world in a |
vacuum inviting to the Commun
ists,” Drummond continues.
"Europeans naturally are con
cerned whether the United States
will carry through its decision to
increase its forces in Germany,
will persevere in the Military As
sistance Program, will stick it out
in Korea, will finish the Marshall
Plan wherever needed, will main
tain a fins and steadfast hand on
the leadership of the free werld.”

1950 BIG BUSINESS
PROFITS WILL HIT A
RECORD OF $24 BILLION
Here’s why an excess profits
tax is needed:
President Truman's Council of j
Economic Advisers estimates 1950 j
profits of corporations will total
$24 billion—after all taxes have
been taken out.
That means a new all-time
high. The previous record was in
1948 when corporate profits after
taxes were $21 billion. Last year
they were $17 billion.
But when the figures were in
for the first nine months of the
year—including the first three
months of the Korean war—the
council sharply revised its esti
mate to $24 billion.
See how big business has prof
ited from the Korean war. The
council’s figures indicate that the
war has meant at least $2 billion
more in profits.
And yet big business says an
excess profits tax would wreck
the economy of the United States.
