Herman Eberharter (D., Fa.) point* out that Congress is “morally bound” to pass an excess profits tax during the special session beginning Novem ber 27. I&erharter, a member •£ the House Ways and Means Commit tee, which handles tax laws, said on November 10 that Congress ordered itself to pass an excess profits tax last September. Just before recessing for the elections. Congress approved a bill telling the Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Fi nance Committee which takes care of tax matters in the Sen ate, “to report ... a bill for raising revenue by the levying, collection and payment of cor porate excess profits taxes with retroactive effect to October I or with July 1, 1960. . . . Eberharter thinks that meas ure clearly indicates that Con gress promised the American people it would pass an excess profits tax as soon, as possible. Commenting on the formation of a Business Committee on Emergency Corporate Taxation to fight the profits tax, Eberharter said: “This businessmen’s group is practically the same one that al ways opposes tax measures which are based on the principle of ability to pay.” MERRY CHRISTMAS We Have Moved to Chralotte Highway SNIPES UPHOLSTERY Phone 2747 ROCK HILL, N.
