(Prem New Jersey Labor Hera 14. Newark) Those Member* of the Medical Profession who are being misled into supporting reactionary can didate* for public office, so long as they promise to oppose “so cialised medicine” if elected, are playing with fire which may eventually bum out the respect and confidence the average Amer ican Worker has always had for his Doctor. To begin with, Labor is just as bitterly opposed to "social-' ized medicine” as are the medi cos. This phony term is being used as propaganda to confuse the issue in people’s minds with socialism. What the American Worker is determined to get for himself is Health Insurance—protection for himself and his family against the insecurity of serious illness. And. he is willing to pay for this protection through a painless weekly wage deduction. What’s so unfair about that? The pres* ently operating ‘Blue Cross Plan’ and schemes *of that type are not the answer to this problem. It it most distasteful for one to be at odds with his Doctor. In most cases he has always been a good friend of the family whom everyone respected. However, the Doctor automatically loses that desirable status when he turns politician . . . and, what even worse, becomes the backer of re actionary candidates whom Labor is forced to fight for its very existence. Progress will not be stopped. Yes, it may be delayed. But the American people know what they want; protection against being forced into life-long debt when catastrophic illness strikes. No one, not even the misguided Doctors, cah stop them. Why waste your time looking for flying saucers when you can make it worthwhile looking for Union Labels? Even when you find ’em, they don't always want to come back. “It’s like that w ith youngsters. Give them a trail to follow—something to guide them when prob lems come along—and you'll never have a maverick on your hands. Even w hen the grazing looks greener away from the path, if your kids are sure the path leads to something-even though they can't see the destination—they'll stick to it. “It’s all in believing—in having faith.
