The date was set pursuant .to a unanimous recommendation of the IAM executive council that the Machinists return to thd AFL. In a communication addressed to the IAM membership every where, President A. J. Hayes and members of the IAM executive council said: “We earnestly request that the entire membership of the IAM support this unanimous action of their executive council by an overwhelming vote in the inter ests of trade union unity. “Our reaffiliation with the AFL is, in oup opinion, a con structive way to work for this desirable objective.
