WASHINGTON, — The Inter
national Association of Machin
ists set December 1-31 for a vote
by its more than 600,000 members
on reaffiliation with the Ameri
can Federation of Labor.
The date was set pursuant .to
a unanimous recommendation of
the IAM executive council that
the Machinists return to thd
AFL.
In a communication addressed
to the IAM membership every
where, President A. J. Hayes and
members of the IAM executive
council said:
“We earnestly request that the
entire membership of the IAM
support this unanimous action of
their executive council by an
overwhelming vote in the inter
ests of trade union unity.
“Our reaffiliation with the
AFL is, in oup opinion, a con
structive way to work for this
desirable objective. We pledge
you our full support of the pro
] gram to achieve complete unity
j with all segments of the Ameri
jcan labor movement.
“It has been achieved in the
; political field due to necessity,
: and it is highly essential in the
■ economic field and, in our opinion,
! represents the aspirations of ev
ery sincere trade unionist, uot
only in the IAM but in every
organized group in our nation.”
The IAM acted after reaching
complete agreement with the
