When there is skin on one side—as in ocean perch fillets—place them in skillet or broiler skinless side down. It is easier to turn and lift them with out breaking when done if you follow this routine. UNION LABEL PURSE TO HI6HLI6HT CALIFORNIA STATE FAIR SEPT. 3 With the shout of “They’re off and running!” the first annual Union Label Purse will be launch ed at the California State Fair in Sacramento on Labor Day as part of a gigantic state-wide cele bration of Union Label Week. The unique sporting event, sponsored by the Union Label Trades Department of the AFL, is the first of its kind to be held anywhere, and it is hoped that the colorful race can be extended to other states in the future. California’s Governor, Earl Warren, and Ray Leheney, sec retary-treasurer of the Union Label Trades Department, will be on hand to present a trophy to the winning horse and jockey, with celebrities of stage, screen, radio and TV also participating in the festivities. Jones reminded tobacco pro ducers today that they must dis play twin red reflectors at the rear of their trailers. The meas ure, Jones said, is in addition to the customary red stop light re quired on all motor vehicles and trailers. The red disks should be not less than four inches in diameter, he said, and are to be mounted so as to be visable at a distance of at least 500 feet. A heavy influx of tobacco laden vehicles heading towards Eastern North Carolina markets will make nighttime traffic particularly haz ardous.
