Mennen Williams, there an presently 146,000 unemployed in Michigan, 103,000 of them in De troit. “By January 15,” said Senator Moody, “statisticians predict that total will have risen to 156,000 in the state, including 110,000 in Detroit.” By comparison, very few of the jobless in Detroit are AFL mem bers. but experience has shown that continued unemployment quickly reflects upon all trades. SHOCKING PLANE TRAGEDY At least 54 persons were killed in the nation's second worst plane disaster. A non-schcduled two motored passenger plane, bound for Florida, crashed into the Elizabeth river 7 minutes after it took off from Newark airport. All aboard perished in the flam- j in* wreckage.
