UNIONISTS NEED THREE
CARDS FOR TRIPLE
PROTECTION
The Portland, Ore., Union Reg
ister said in an editorial that
trade unionists need “triple pro
tection—your union card, LLPE
card, and your card showing
your’re registered to vote.”
“When a Congresional candi
date is friendly to labor, he must
face the bitter opposition of well
financed anti-labor forces at elec
tion time,” said the Union Reg
ister editorial.
“To make it hard for anion
members to help fight this kind
of political opposition, the Taft*
Hartley Act outlawed the use of
union funds in federal election*
“But, every AFL member can
legally contribute voluntarily.
“Every AFL member can help
elect friendly candidates in 1962
by contributing to Labor's League
for Political Education (LLPE)
and become a member of 'that
body.
“We suggest you do your bit
voluntarily and help see to it that
friendly candidates are elected."

LOOK AT PAST RECORD
—VOTE
President Sam Byers of the
Laundry Workers asked every
trade unionist to be “a 100 per
cent citizen” this year.
“A hundred per cent citizen
takes his part in politics,” Byers
wrote i nthe January issue of the
International Laundry Worker.
“He does not forget to regis
ter. He joins the party of his
choice and raises his voice when
the time comes to select its can
didates — judging them not by
personal preference but by past
record of performance.
“He actively works for those
who have shown they have the
interest of ALL the people at
heart—wjio are not swayed by
high-paid lobbies of vested in
terests.
“And when the elections come,
he not only votes—he helps get
out the vote.”
