Monday r.ighr wne given up to the graduating clas which consisted of twenty-eight yountf gentleiLen. The exercises consisted of an oration by F. L. Merritt, of Morrisville ; a history or the class by C. T. Bailey, Jr., of Raleigh f porphesy of the class by T. M. Ilufham, of Scotland Neck; closing address by the President of the class, W. C . Dowd, of Char lotte. This was a departure from the order hitherto followed on 6uch occasions bat seemed to be greatly enjoyed by the large audience in attendance; perhaps enjoyed all thi more because it was something new. Tuchdaj- was occupied by the Hoard of Trustees. The Treasurer' report showed that there is an in-terept-benri nir endowment fund of r, little over si 73,000, the Iarge-t en dowment belonging to any college ir the State. The whole number of students in attendance during the yenr was 218. In this particular aPo Wake Foro.it hail led the col leges of the State. 1'iof. L. l'oteat Among the changes to be made dur ir.g the coming year is the establish merit o&a chair of physical culture with a competent Professor and adequate equipment. On Wednesday the address befon the literary societies was delivered by Hon. W. L. Wikon , of West Vn It was a fine audience which greeted the orator. On the rostrum werf Gov. Fowlc; State Treasurer Haii; Auditor Sanderlin. AgriculturalCom mis; Pi oner Robinson. Josephus Dan ids, das. 11. and T. J. Horner, Hon J. J. Davis, lion. Mills II. Fore and others who can not be mentioned here. The oration was worthy ol the audience and the occasion. Presd dent Taylor said he had been ac customed to think he had heard onh two really great commencement ora tions ; one by Senator Yorhees, o' Indiana, and one by a distinguished son of S. C lie had just heard j. third great oration ; and in behalf of the young men and of the vast audi ence be thanked the orator. Gov. Fowle, who had been enthusiastical ly cheered as he entered the hall was called out. lie was in his happiest frame and his speech wa3 one of tin best of the short speeches that thP present writer has heard from him.
