rO-ITICAL D3IFT. PRE33 OPINIONS. 80i:ni doctrink. The Democratic party is charged with responsible duties which can not be disregarded without peril to itself and injury to the c mntry. What con stitutes the party ? It is not the presi dent nor is it the Congress. It is the people who through their delegates as semble in "national conventions and proclaim in their platform the prin ciples of government which they be lieve to lc eential to the interests cf the people under the r.,n.-titii Ion adop ted by our fathers. The Chicago platform is the law of the party, and the President and the Congress aire but the agents to execute the law. The party has not receded from its position, and if its agents have been derelict it is the ' duty of the party to hold them to a strict and unswerving responsibility. If the Democratic par ty has failed to carry out the Chicago platform the injury may not be irrepar able, since its agents may be changed or brought to the proier discharge of their duties ; but if, because of the fail ure of any agent to stand by the law of the party, Democrats abandon their party and allow it to disintegrate, there's no hope for constitutional government on this continent. Armour it Co. having bought thousands of hogs in Georgia. The farmers of that State, it will be thus een have not only raised meat enough tosunnlv themselves but enough to ship thousands of hogs to Chicago, from which thev had in previous years been buying pork to meet their home wants. He adds that the fanners of Northwest Georgia made more money from poul try and eggs than from cotton. Grass grows well ; grain is produced at a low price, and the stock improves the farm and yields a good income. For years North Carolina has been a good horse market for Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. "Castoria Is an excellent medicine for chil dren. Mothers have repeatedly told me of its good effect upon their children." Dr. Q. C. Osgood, Lowell, Mass. Castoria is the hest remedy for children of which I am acquainted. I hope the day is not far distant when mothers will consider the real interest of their children, and use Castoria in stead of the various quack nostrums which are destroying their loved ones, by forcing opium, morphine, soothing syrup and other hurtful agents down their throats, thereby sending them to premature graves."
