And. though she left no pong To rinple down the centuries And cheer the world along, Her soul was full of music ; Her thought was set to rhyme Of little teet, that kept her heart A-singing all the time. Her life was one long measure Of kind, unselfisti deeds ; (So common is the doing One scarcely knows or heeds.) She gave herself so freely Thought had she for us all, A lift time to note cacn flower. And the first bluebird's call. A singer who sings truly Must often sing of pain, Yet hope rose through her sorrow As rainbows through the rain. O, what a wondrous poem Is 'mother duty done ! Sharp plows save the farm teams. Help co.-ting th.e least money is not always the cheapest. Surplus earnings cannot "be investe in anything that will pay much better than a good barn. You cannot afford to buy all your home supplies, no matter how big crops you grow to sell. Odd times can be used to advantage in cutting weeds which will seed a little later if let alone. If you have no shed or shelter of any kind for the farm wagon, rim it under some shade trees. The hot sunshine following a vain injures it more than th.e rain. Do not allow the farm buildings to lack paint. The cost is covered by the saving in lumber which results and the improved appearance is worth some thing. Cure clover hay as careiully as pos sible. It is excellent feed when nicely cured, hut loses much of its value if leached in curing, or handled when so dry that its leaves fall off badly. Adopt a system of rotation of crops which is adapted to the conditions found on your farm. Different crops require food elements and some need the elements which others add to the soil. It is 1-elievel that the thief got in with a key. Jlocky Mount A njouav.: A four teen year oid colored boy, named Wil lis Cooper. Jiving near Spnnghope wa- accidentally shot by his si.-ter, an eighteen year old girl, on last Friday night. The strange part of the story is that although a thirty-eight calibre pistol bullet passed through h head, from just over the right eye to the hack, lie is ptill living and conscious. Tarboro Southerner: At Asheville last week a five dollar prize was offered for the best essay in favor of woman's suffrage. It was contested foi by four young gentlemen, and Mr. Y. E.X hit- . r Ar 4 It'u.il. !, f , . vn -J ock, son oi .ur. . xjjuock, iuhhui of Tarboro, was the winner. All wa- adjudged by competent critics, and Mr. Whitlock was yictor in a double sense, being the most forcible and finished in expression of any essay delivered. Monroe Enquirer: On last Saturday afternoon Rev. J. W. Little, a IJaptist minister, who lives about ten miles south of Here, came very near freezing ! while on his way to Monroe. He was found near town lying in his buggy and was totally unconscious. He was brought on to town and the usual means of restoration for freezing was resorted to. He recovered in a short while. Air. Little says that he was un well when he left home and fainted when about a mile from here. AVilson Advance : We hare leirned that a very bad accident happened on Mr. Jacob Aycock's place near Fremont a few days ago. A package of gun powder, that was lying on the mantel piece in a Mr. Woodard's house, fell off upon the hearth. Air. Aycock's son, who was present, stooped down to pick it up when the powder exploded. He was badly burned. Mr. Woodard and his two children were also severely in jured. They are so badly injured that their death would not be unexpected. The house also was materially damaged. had f: in t'i- ' a:. a I - i ! hue -olved the eternal i: '' ' ..; ! forgotten.
