Catarrh has become such a common disease that a person entirely free front this disgusting complaint is seldom met with. Statesyille Landmark : Dr.. E. A. Hall, of Bethany, has left with The Landmark a sample of oats and Irish potatoes grown on the farm of Mr. S. W. Gillespie, at Lookout, Wyoming. The potatoes are quite large and re- gamble our home grown potatoes ex cept tbat the skin is much brighter. They evidently grow fine potatoes In Wyoming. Dr. Hall eaya they clear away the sage-brush, plow a farrow, put in potatoes, turn the ground up into ridges, and no other work is done to the crop except to irrigate it. The simple of oats is of an unknown variety. Dr. Hall says the oats were raised oa a tract ot land, embracing about 2,500 acres, which was formerly a lake and entirely covered with water. In recent years the water has dis appeared entirely, drawn away probab ly by irrigation. Tbe bed of this im mense lake is covered with rich sedi ment, is now under cultivation and grows very hue oats. The rich, loose soil is harrowed and tho oats put in and left until harvest. ? Does the Farm Fay? The question has come up In the mind of doubtless every young man about to take up his work in lite ; and it is one of those questions answered both affirmatively and negatively. The farm does not pay it wrongly managed. It does pay if properly managed. Perhaps both propositions are correct as a rule. Yet we know of many farms that do pay, and still they are not properly managed. On tbe other hand we know of not a singla farm, properly managed, that does not pay. There should be but a single proposition, this : Does a farm proper ly managed pay ? We answer without the slightest hesitation : It not only pays but it pays well. Where energy, en- tbus!asm and knowledge are combined with good farm management and excu- tive ability, there yon will find a paying farm and a successful farmer. If you know how to properly prepare fertilizer and treat the soil, and how to grow them, there is no question you will grow a paying, remunerative crop. Tbe same is true with all elasses ot live stock, horticultural products, dairy products ; in fact any agricultur al specialty : managed with skill and thoroughness, will bring Its reward. JUMPED ON A TEN PENNY NAIL. The little daughter of Mr. J. N. In three days the child was wearing her shoe as usual and with absolutely no discomfort. Mr. Powell is a well known merchant of Forkland, Va. Pain Balm is an antiseptic and heals such injuries with out maturation and in one-third the time required by the usual treatment. For sale by E. T. Whitehead & Co. PERTINENT AND IMPERTINENT.
