Catarrh has become such a common
disease that a person entirely free front
this disgusting complaint is seldom met
with. It R customary to speak of Catarrh
as nothing more serious than a bad cold,
a fhr.ple "inflammation of the nose and
throat! It is, in fact, a complicated and
vcrv dsnjreror.s disease; if not at first, it
Very H'ou. becomes so.
The blood is quickly contaminated by
the fori secretions, and the poison througli
the general circulation is carried to all
parts of the system.
Salves, washes and sprays are unsati

does. It cleanses the blood of the poison
and eliminates from the system all catar
rhal secretions, and thus cures thoroughly
and permanently the worst cases.

A SHOCKING ACCIDENT.
Wilson Times: Last Wednesday
morning a shocking accident occurred
t the jail in this city. ' The convicts
.ere all lined up ready to go out to
ork when one of them, who had been
ick, asked for some medicine. Mr.
Varrcn, one of the guards, was stand-

PREACHER AGAINST CIRCUSES.
Fremont Visitor : The pastor ot a
colored church in a neighboring town
announced before the coming of the
circus that any of his members who
attended the circus would be discip
lined. A young woman, Secretary of
oi the Sunday-school, went to the
show. Last week an official meeting
was held and the offender's name was
stricken from the registry of the
church. Last Sunday when Sunday
school opened the old Secretary with
her books was in place ready to per
form her usual duty. One of the mem
bF.rs, desiring to prevent a scene, in
timated to the girl's father that under
the circumstances, his daughter could
not setve as Secretary. The father re
plied that she was there to serve and
she would. The result was no Sunday
school that day, and the meeting ad
journed with the questioned still un
settled.
PRODUCTS FROM WYOMING.
Statesyille Landmark : Dr.. E. A.
Hall, of Bethany, has left with The
Landmark a sample of oats and Irish
potatoes grown on the farm of Mr. S.
W. Gillespie, at Lookout, Wyoming.
The potatoes are quite large and re-
gamble our home grown potatoes ex
cept tbat the skin is much brighter.
They evidently grow fine potatoes In
Wyoming. Dr. Hall eaya they clear
away the sage-brush, plow a farrow,
put in potatoes, turn the ground up
into ridges, and no other work is done
to the crop except to irrigate it.
The simple of oats is of an unknown
variety. Dr. Hall says the oats were
raised oa a tract ot land, embracing
about 2,500 acres, which was formerly
a lake and entirely covered with water.
In recent years the water has dis
appeared entirely, drawn away probab
ly by irrigation. Tbe bed of this im
mense lake is covered with rich sedi
ment, is now under cultivation and
grows very hue oats. The rich, loose
soil is harrowed and tho oats put in
and left until harvest. ?

Does the Farm Fay?
The question has come up In the
mind of doubtless every young man
about to take up his work in lite ; and
it is one of those questions answered
both affirmatively and negatively.
The farm does not pay it wrongly
managed. It does pay if properly
managed. Perhaps both propositions
are correct as a rule. Yet we know of
many farms that do pay, and still they
are not properly managed. On tbe
other hand we know of not a singla
farm, properly managed, that does not
pay. There should be but a single
proposition, this : Does a farm proper
ly managed pay ? We answer without
the slightest hesitation : It not only
pays but it pays well. Where energy, en-
tbus!asm and knowledge are combined
with good farm management and excu-
tive ability, there yon will find a paying
farm and a successful farmer. If you
know how to properly prepare fertilizer
and treat the soil, and how to grow
them, there is no question you will
grow a paying, remunerative crop.
Tbe same is true with all elasses ot
live stock, horticultural products,
dairy products ; in fact any agricultur
al specialty : managed with skill and
thoroughness, will bring Its reward.
JUMPED ON A TEN PENNY NAIL.
The little daughter of Mr. J. N.
Powell jumped on an inverted rake
made of ten penny nails, and thrust
one nail entirely through her loot and
a second one half way through. Cham
berlain's Pain Balm was promptly ap
plied and five minutes later tbe pain
had disappeared and no more suffering
was experienced. In three days the
child was wearing her shoe as usual
and with absolutely no discomfort.
Mr. Powell is a well known merchant
of Forkland, Va. Pain Balm is an
antiseptic and heals such injuries with
out maturation and in one-third the
time required by the usual treatment.
