Parker, pastor, preached some able and instructive sermons during the series of meetings. His sermon last Sunday morning has been bigbK praised. Brother Parker is a zealous worker and the people should co-operate and give him their support. Our school which opened about one month ago has a very good attendance and with such thoroughly competent and experienced teachers as Misecs Bessie Cherry and Jennie Leggatt we think the school has bright prorpects. The log train which has heretofore been stopping over at Parmele Satur day night and Sunday, stops over at Hobgood now. We are glad to have Capt. Elmore and Mr. Clay, the crew, with us. Mrs. Liggett will leave this week for New York to visit relatives and purchase her fall stock of millinery goods. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Langston, of Speed, spent last Sunday in Hobgood with Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Shields. Mr, Enoch Cherry, son ot our es teemed townsman Mr. W. R. Cherry, came Sunday to visit his parents. Mr. Cherry is now an employee of the Lake Shore railroad in .New York. His many friends here are delighted to see him. Mr.'R. J. Shfoltlfl. who left aeveral days ago for Baltimore to purchase bis fall stock ot goods, returned Thursday. Mr. Shields was accompanied by Mrs. Shields and Master Leon, who went on a pleasure tour. They visited., tbe mountains and other places of interest and had a delightful trip. Master Leon was very favorably impressed with tbe North and says he wishes to go again. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Herring and Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Jones went to Norfolk Mouday, returning tbe same day. Mr. Fiemming, who has been spend ing several days in Scotland Neck on business, returned home Saturday. Rev. D. B. Parker is holding a pro tracted meeting at Williams' chapel this week. Mr. R. J. Shields, our leading mer chant, shipped four bales of cotton to Norfolk last Saturday. This is tho first shipment of this year'acrop from this station. Mrs. Frank Armstrong and children returned home Tuesday from Williams tson where they haye been visiting. The farmers of this section are well pleased with the prices they are receiv ing for their tobacco. Mr. W. D. Ruf fin'scrop of tobacco will sell for not lees than two thousand dollars. Mrs. H. II. Jones left Tuesday even ing for a visit to her relatives at Golds boro, Wallace and Wilmington.
