Fill a bottle or common glass with your water and let it stand twenty-four hours; a sediment or set tling indicates an unhealthy condi tion of the kid neys ; if it stains your linen it is evidence of kid ney trouble; too frequent desire to pass it or pain in the back is also convincing proof that the kidneys and blad der are out of order. -. , What to Do. f' There is comfort in the knowledge so often expressed, that Dr. Kilmer's Swamp Root, the great kidney remedy fulfills every wish in curing rheumatism, pain in the back, kidneys, liver, bladder and every part of the urinary passage. It corrects inability to hold water and scalding pain in passing it, or bad effects following use of liquor, wine or beer, and overcomes that unpleasant necessity of being compelled to go often during the day, and to get up many times during the night. The mild and the extra ordinary effect of Swamp-Root is soon realized. It stands the highest for its won derful cures of the most distressing cases. If you need a medicine you should have the best. TN the eld days of religious intol erance it would have been an un heard ot thing for two people of differ ent boliefa to have anything to do with each other, especially of a friendly na ture. They might quarrel and bicker and dispute, but sny thought of com panionship or friendship would have been deemed impossible. But the world ia moviug and the spirit of intolerance ia fast disappear ing. People may differ in their be liefs to-day and yet be friendly with each other. Of coursa, some of the old, narrow, bigoted intolerance 13 yet to be found, and the fires of jealousy and envy and hatred of each other burn as fiercely as in the days of the Inqui sition. But despite the pessimism of many people, the world is growing bet ter and broader and more sen-ible, and wa are beginning to realize that a per son may differ from us in belief and yet not be wholly bad and damnable, but on the oihor hand be a good, hon edt, iaithful friend. A beautiful example of this is found ia the friendship of Pope Leo and Tr. Mazzoni. lpe Leo stood at the head of a great church, the highest repre-ssnt-tiva of its reiicioa and faith. Dr. Mazzoni was a rank atheist. And yet the Pope and the doctor were the closest iricnds. Some of the narrow minded people about the Pope tried to persuade him, in his last sickness, not to have Mazzoni as consultant. But the old Pope loved Mazzoni, had su preme confidence in him, and longed to have him near him. He would not listen to his advisers but kept Mazzoni by him to the end. And Mazzoni loved the Pope. With tears in his eyes he said he would gladly give ten years of his Iffe if he could add but one to that of Leo. We cannot help but admire the no bility of the two men who were able to rise above and shut out cf their lives lh9 narrow, foolish bickerings of con tsniions that usually attend a differ-o-iee of belief, keeping the friendship batweea ibein strong and untainted by the least suspicion of envy or preju dice. TLere were so many things on which they did agree, so many good qualities they saw in each other, that they were content and sensible enough to lay aside the point on whicb' they disagreed and simply enjoy the confi dence and coairadeibip that was to them a lifelong source of happiness. These are the things that make life worth living. To be broad and toler ant enough to find and enjoy the good m others, ignoring their peculiarities and narrowness, respecting their be liefs, refusing to mar the beautiful days of life by any thought of eavy, jealousy or hatred. Such an attitude brings to the brain strength and energy, to the body abounding health, making life one long, gladsome day. Some time we will reach the place where we will look In wonder and pity upon that person who is so insane as to allow his mind to be poisoned and his body injured by the narrow, intolerant thoushts of malice, hatred aud envy. Such thinking leaves indelible scars cn mind and body alike. Such a person 13 tearing down and wrecking his mental and physical structure. He is laying up for himself a life of ill-health and uuhappiness. We have no doubt it was this toler ant state of mind on the part of the Pope and Dr. Mazzoni that contributed to the bsalthy eld age which Leo at tained. FOE OVLB, SIXTY YEARS. If the making and receiving of gifts contributes vitally to the joy of exist ence, the children of the twentieth century have reason to congratulate themselves upon ".their good fortune. In no way has the increasing luxury of American life revealed itself more widely than in this. Our grandmothers could often count upon their ten fingers the gifts of their childhood. The average American baby of any except the poorest families perhaps receives more gift3 from ad miring relatives in the first year of his life than his great-grandmother re ceived in her first twenty. For in her day, except for the occasional rare treasure bestowed by some speolal kindness ot fortune, there was but one time of giit-making and receiving, and that the wedding day when the friends and relatives brought their simple presents oi household goods and plen ishings and provisions to help furnish the new home. Now the bride that is to be does not have to wait until her wedding day for visible assurance of the affections of her friends. Th8 announcement of her engagAment brings to her a multi tude of dainty gifts, and every anni versary repeats them. JEven before these, there have been the delightful tissue-papered mysteries of birthdays and Christmas and New Year's and St. Valentine's day and Easter, and once or twice the excitement of - commence ment, with its flowers and boxes, and frequent presents from visiting friends or other friends returning from jour neys. We live truly in an era of gifts. Is the child or the grown-up child, for that matter greatly the happier for all these gifts? Probably not, and for two reasons. One Is the grave old law of compensation, so often the level er of unequal fortunes. A gift cannot mean so much to one who gets a hun dred as it does to one who cherishes a solitary treasure. The other reason is that the great gift oi all to any life, no matter how few cr how many the years it counts, ia love. The child who has that can easi ly spare material wealth. : There is, nevertheless, one other Bide to the matter of giving.- It luxury in living is increasing every day, as it seems to bo, it la surely a pleasant thing that one phase of it is the devis ing of new and graceful ways of show ing our sympathy with friends in ev erything, whether joy or sorrow, that touches their lives. "Joints pain you this morning?" Eheumacide will give you quick and thorough relief. Ask your druggist. "Did you see Bubble and his wife at the reception last night?" We do not need to give all the reasons why Scott's Emulsion restores the strength and flesh and color of good health to those who suffer from sick blood. The fact that it is the best preparation of Cod Liver Oil, rich in nutrition, full of healthy stimulation is a suggestion as to why it does what it does. Scott's Emulsion presents Cod Liver Oil at its best, fullest in strength, least in taste. Young women in their " teens " are permanently cured of the peculiar disease of the blood which shows itself in paleness, weakn ess and nervous ness, by regular treatment with Scott's Emulsion.
