W. Josey, with an axe. About three weeks ago on the Times farm, and about 500 yards from the printing office, a large iox and a shepherd dog had a fight and it required the help of a man and a weapon to win the fight'forthe dog. During the past week foxes have done much damage in this section by scratching up and eating freshly planted pea nuts. Our attention was called to one field that the foxes had damaged very much- Foxes do great damage to the poultry yards in this section. The poultry and eggbusiness has reached vast proportions in this section, though no one makes it a business." tttx - It is the time when etudentsfrom the various institutions in the country can soon enter upon a vacation of re&t. Tired and worn and almost haggard lrom Sweet and Welcome Best constant the class room to the open for the ueep inhalations of the fresh air and the free exercise in the sunshine which they so much need. No one needs change and rest more than the student who has done full duty to the tastes of a year in a college or high school. Perhaps the laithful teacher needs it as much, and this is the time when th9 patient and painstaking teacher can enjoy a season of rest that is so much needed after a year's work and worry in the school room. Then teachers and pupils are all to be con gratulated on this happy seasoa when they can enjoy their sweet and well earned rest. t t t t A gentleman of culture and broad experience said to us some days ago that every man and woman ought to have some employment. He said he cared not education, The Dignity of Labor. ic work. We quite agreed with him. It is strange that any one should fee! that there is anything degrading in labor ; but there are a few left 009 here and there only who somehow look with a bit of scorn on the parson who must and does labor. And there is a strange idea with some an to what kind of labor is honorable and what kind Is not. The truth is there ia no diHercacs in honest labor. The rnaa who occuplas the high est position as banker, is no more to be commended in his work than the man who follows the plow, drives the team or digs in the ditch. All hon est labor is commendable, and the only difference is the difference in the place which God assigns, the man In which to do his work. tilt Discussing the agricultural interest of the country some days ago with some gentlemen who seemed to know much about it,they deplored the fact 7 -ju jj that in some places the farms are too large. They ail 8ai( sacl1 8 state of affairs operates against cer- tain classes of white labor, and they were agreed that it would be better if many of the large farms could be cat up into smaller farms. Before night of the same day we talked in another com munity with a man who seemed equally intelligent with the first m'en referred- to, and he deplored the fact that in his community there are so few large and attractive farms. And so it goes. The first named persons thought that the State needs an immigration bureau in order to induce the catting up of the large farms ; while the latter person thought that it would be more desirable to have larger farms. And so it is with many matters it depends entirely upon the view-point from which one con siders a thing. It is indeed true, as the old Latin phrase put it "So many men, so many opinions." tut Ix conversation with a gentleman of distinguished ability and who has held high official position In this State, we learned that he agrees with what The Commonwealth has said perhaps To Represent the People more tfaan once about office ftoldere a, tendlDg strictly to the duties of their office. This paper eaid several years ago, and we have not changed the opinion, that when a member of the United States Congress vacates his seat for any appreciable length of time to at tend to his private or professional interest", he ought to rebate the Govern ment for the part of his salary which such time represents. We believe Mr. Bailey, of Texas, did it once. It is like the gentleman to whom we referred above said if a man's office does no justify him to give it his tinv, let him give it up and devote himself to that which will render him adrq"ate rnturns for his services. Perhaps some might taice issue with us on this position, but we believe it is correct. When -a man accepts an office which is representative he ought to hold himself In readiness, in po sition and place to represent his people and be ready for any emergency. CHAMBERLAIN'S COUGH REM EDY THE VERY BEST. "I I ave been using Chamberlain's Cough Remedy and want to say it is the Let cough medicine I have ever taken," sajs Geo.L Chubb, a merchart of lUrUa, Mich.
