There is just as much money
in the country as there ever
was. There are plenty of peo

country who have money, and
it is only through imaginary

IT GOES TO THE PEOPLE.
The Democratic caucus in Raleigh
Tuesday night decided to pass a
State prohibition bill to go into ef
fect next January, when ratified by
a majority of the vote of the people.
It is not yet known when the elec

THE EXTRA SESSION.
The General Assembly of North
Carolina is in extra session, having
convened Tuesday. By the law the
body may remain in session thirty
days, but can draw pay for only
twenty days.
The body was called together to
consider special features of the rail
road rale question. Doubtless other
things will be considered, but no one
can even guess what they will be or
how they will be acted upon.

Trifct2 to Dr. Karpsr.
(News and Observer.)
Wilson, N. C, Jan. 17. At 12:15!
today at Atlantic Christian College
occurred the death of our well known
and universally beloved townsman,
Dr. J. J. Harper. His deatn came
as a shock to this community and to
the hundreds of friends of the emin
ent educator and preacher through
out the State. His condition wasj
not considered serious until Thurs
day morning, when pneumonia de
veloped and he laid down to sleep as
peaceful as a child lies down to plea
sant dreams.
The death of Dr. Harper has cast
a gloom over this community, where
he was so well known and esteemed.
His qualities of heart and brain made
him many friends all over the State,
whose hearts were saddened at his
passing. To his untiring efforts is
due the success of the Atlantic Christ
ian College, and this institution is
now in a flourishing condition. The
funeral services will be conducted at
the Christian church on Sunday at
11 a. m. and the burial will take place
at Smithfield at 3 p. m.
Dr. Harper was a native of Johr
ston county and lived on his farm
near Smithfield, until he was elected
president of the Atlantic Christain
College at Wilson some yearys ago.
He was an able preacher and for
more than a quarter of a century
was the leading man in the Christian
church. He was president of the
conference and was a leading figure
in the national gathering of his
church. He took an active part in
establishing Atlantic Christain Col
lege, the denominational college of
his church, which is growing steadily
under his management. He was a
broad-gauged Christian gentleman
of the best type and one of the most
influential men in Eastern North
Carolina. .
The clock ticks and ticks the time

Shortening up our lives each day,
Eat, drink, and be merry,
For some day you will be where

Most people know that if they have $
been sick they need Scoff' jt Emu I- 8j

But the strongest point about Scoff's

It keeps up the athlete's strength, puts fat
on thin people, makes a fretful baby happy,
brings color to a pale girl's cheeks, and pre-
vents coughs, colds and consumption. Gs
