What Halifax county farmers ought to do through the Southern Cotton Association during 1903, by B. D. Mann. In the absence of Capt. Jenkins, none other just such journal in the country, and it? growth and steady improvement since its establishment a few years ago, indicate that it is serving well its constituency and that it is being well supported. The Wilmington Messenger thinks that there is more inde pendent thought within the ranks of the Democratic party in this State than there has been before in forty years. Suggestion is made that unless great care is exercised in choosing candidates there will be quite a mix-up at the Novem ber election. All of which is well worth considering, but we do not see any particular dan ger of party disentegration. MUST AD VERtIsE LAVD. The Rich Square Times calls attention to the following law concerning the advertising of real estat? to be sold under mortgage: Sec. 041. No real property shall be s,old under execution, deed in trust, mortgage. or other contracts thereafter executed, until notice of said sale shall be POStrMl and th at the eouri oui e lioor i who touched on the subject assigned to Capt. Jenkins, and also made a forceful talk on the subject assigned to him. The speaker for the third number on the program was called for, and being absent, Dr. A. S. Harrison kindly consented to make some re marks on the subject. Dr. Harrison n?ver fails to say a good word to the I cotton growers, and he was up to his usual high standard of interest and sound advice. Mr. B. D. Mann then told the As sociation what they should do th:s year through the organization, ard how great good could come to the farmers through it. Elsewhere is published in this issue a call for a meeting of the justices of the peace of Scot land Neck, Palmyra and Rose neath townships in Scotland Neck next Tuesday, to consider certain matters pertaining to the improvement of the roads in these townships. Nothing more properly claims the attention of justices of the peace than the interests of the public roads. They compose the board of road supervisors in their respective townships and the care of the roads is a responsibility which rests upon them. Something has been said about combining the funds of the- townships of Scotland Neck, Palmyra and Roseneath. If by doing so the roads in these townships can be improv ed without undue increase in the expense of the work, by all means let it be done. The people of the county pay a, special road tax and they are entitled to the best public roads that can be had by the wise and prudent expenditure of the funds so raised. The Commonealth does not presume to suggest any plan whereby this can be done, for the justices of the peace in the townships are fully capable of the high and important service that rests with them in these matters. We wish only to em phasize the suggestion that the people should have the very best from the available funds possible, and they will approve of such action by the board of road supervisors. A well-known authority on Rheu matism gives the readers of a large New York daily paper the following valuable, yet simule and harmless prescription which any one can easily prepare at home: Fluid Extract Dandelion, one-half ounce; Compound Kargon.one ounce; Compound Syrup Sarsapariila, three ounces. Mix by shaking well in a bottle, and take a teaspoonful after each meal and at bedtime. He states that the ingredients can be obtained from any good prescrip tion pharmacy at small cost, and, be ing of vegetable extraction, are harmless to take. This pleasant mixture, if taken regularlv for a few days, is said to overcome almost any case of Rheu matism. The pain and swelling, if any, diminishes with each dose, until permanent results are obtained, and without injuring the stomach. While there are many so-called Rheuma tism remedies.patent medicines.ete., some of which do give relief, few really give permanent results, and the above will, no doubt, be greatly appreciated by many sufferers here at this time.
