It is a sett'.ed point in newspaper ethics that .litc.rs atirl rmblishets are not rpspoiisibt.' for the views of correspon.ients, ami wir iui uuu .... -i communication does not mean that the editor or publisher endorses the communication. Bryan did not fail to hit those Democrats who deserted their party platform in the tariff , fight in Congress. We quite agree with him when he says : "If all the Democrats in the Sen ate and House had voted against every proposed increase in the tariff and for every proposed decrease, we might have made our fight next year ' upon the party's record without making a specific declaration on items of schedules, but in view of the fact that Democrats in both the Senate and House differed as to the interpretation of the Democratic platform and as to the rates that should be imposed under the various schedules, I believe it is necessary for our platform to be more specific and emphatic." We have nothing against Greens boro, yet we don't want to see her get the capital of the State away from Raleigh. Mr. Robert L. Gray, of Raleigh, becomes editor of the Wilmington Star. Mr. Gray is a writer of abili ty and the Star is to be congratulated upon acquiring his services. The North Carolina Review, issued by the News and Observer Company, appeared for the first time with last Sunday's paper. The object of this magazine is to keep alive and pre serve the literature and historical events of our proud old State. It has a large field to work in, and if we are to judge by the first issue, it is going to cover the ground well. The Review will be issued on the first Sunday in every month as a supplement to the News and Ob server. There will be held at Raleigh early in November the Farmers National Congress. The State Department of Agriculture is making some very liberal offers in money prizes for the best display of corn, wheat and oth er products of the farm made at this convention. Our farmers ought to avail themselves of this opportunity, not only to secure some of the prizes, but to show to the world what our lands will produce. Those of our readers that are interested can get full information about the contest by writing to the State Department of Agriculture, Raleigh, N. C. Reported for The Commonwealth.
