In the first place we have advised all the pupils to procure and bring to the school individual drinking cups. This precaution against the spread of disease is taken not be cause the management of the school thinks that there are diseased child ren in school, but because it is re garded as a neccessary precaution against disease that might be in school. We perfer not to take any chances. The use of a common drink ing cup hasbeen'found to be the wav by which disease was spread in many instances. The following taken from the July "Bulletin of health" is one to the p )int. "A cup which has been used in a high school for several months with out being washed was lined inside with a brownish deposit. Under the microscope this proved to be L-omposed of particles of mud. thou?. ands of bits of dead skin, and millons of bacteria among which were scores of germs corresponding in all details to those of tuberculosis. Some of this sediment was injected under the kin of a healthy guinea pig, and in forty hours the animal died. A past mortem examination found that death was due to the presences of a sufficient- number of pneumonia j-fvm to psnnp blond noisoniner." The common drinking cup is passmer Among the young men that passed the examination for licenses before the supreme court last week to prac tice law we note that Mr. Ashby W. Dunn, of Scotland Neck, and Mr. Lovira W. Leggett, of Hobgood, were successful. These young men will enter at once upon the practice of law. Mr. Dunn has opened an office in Scotland Neck and is asso fiatpd with his brother. Mr. Albion Dunn, of Greenville, under the firm name of Dunn & Dunn. We call attention to their announcement in another column. Tax Collectors, The county commissioners in se sion at Halifax Monday appointci tax collectors for the various town ships as follows.
