Mr. Pow ers is a speaker of ability and power. Messrs. W. T. White, Willie H. and J. L. Allsbrook were in Halifax Saturday to stand the examination for R. F. D. carrier's position. There h a vacancy on Route No. 2 from Scotland Neck. Mr. W T. White is now carrying the mail on this route as substitute, and stands first in line for regular appointment. Miss Pattie Thorne, of the Wash ington graded school, and Miss Rebecca Knight, of the East Caro lina Teachers Training School, were pleasant visitors at the home of Mrs. 0. N. McDowell from Thanksgiving d3y to Sunday. Both these ladies were former popular teachers of the Scotland Neck graded school and they have many friends here who are always glad to see them. Henderson, spent Thanksgiving week here. Miss Mary Mabry, of Weldon. has been spending some days with the Misses Butts. Mr. William Dickens, of Weldon, was a visitor here Thanksgiving week. Mrs. L. C. Grady has returned from a visit to relatives in Duplin county. Miss Bessie and Master LeRoy Twisdale have returned from a visit to Spring Hill. Messrs. W. E. and John Fenner, Jr., of Rocky Mount, were here a few days ago to see their people. A large "buck" was killed last Saturday morning over the river by Mr. W. E. Fenner. Messrs. John and Walter Bass have moved their families to the Howerton residence on Main street. Post Master W. A. Willcox on last Saturday morning examined a class of four candidates for rural routes running out from Scotland Neck. No Court. On account of the sickness of Judge M. H. Justice, there is no court at Halifax this week. The Judge hopes to be able to have court next Mon day, the 5th, and all Jurors, witness es, and suitors are summoned to be present on that day. Halifax, N. C, Nov. 29. On Wed nesday evening of last week in Hux's hall there was a most enjoyable entertainment by the children of the town. Mrs. N. L. Stedman had for sometime had them in training and with catience. perseverance and pluck, drilled them so that they did their part splendidly and reflected credit on the trainer. Mrs. Stedman was assisted by the other ladies of the town. She wishes to acknowl edge their kindness and help in so nany ways and offer her most sin cere thanks. The entertainment was for the benefit of the Baptist church. The proceeds amounted to over forty dollars. We would like to say something about the program, the different parts, and the part each child played, but space forbids. We were charmed with the "Merry Sailors" by the boys; "Tripping," and'! 'Rainbow" by girls, "Country flirfation" by Master Emil Gowan, and Miss Maxime Westphall; and an instrumental solo by Miss Margaret Foster. The Philatha class of the 'Metho dist Sunday school went out to the connty home Sunday morning and held a little service which was en joyable and we think helpful. They left an appointment for each 4th Sabbath morning. These young ladies will do good work we are sure as each is trying to be an active worker, filling their place as best they can. Mr. J. K. Elliott, with his friend, Rev. Mr. Trueblood, of Wake For rest, spent Thanksgiving here with friends. Mr. Trueblood filled an appointment at the M. E. chnrch Thursday evening. Mrs. N. L.
