Last Friday morning about 10:30 o'clock, Mr. Clinton Keel came to town in search of a physician to at tend a colored man on his farm, about a mile from town, who had received an ugly stab on the right side just below the ribs. It being suspected that Mr. Keel was impli cated in the affair he was detained while Dr. O. F. Smith went to see the wounded man, Henry Whitaker by name, who told the doctor that he had been cut by Mr. Keel while engaged in a friendly tussel with an other negro named William Dancy, whereupon both Mr. Keel and Dancy were placed under arrest. The case was heard Saturday morning before Mayor J. E. Shields, and Mr. Keel was bound over to court under a bond of $250, while the charge against Dancy was with drawn, there being no evidence con necting him with the affair. Death of Mr. James Lewis. Delightful Dance by Tbe Iroquois Ger man Club Tuesday Evening. The Iroquois German Club gave its annual Thanksgiving german in Madry's hall Monday evening, Nov ember the 27th, and if we may ac cept the expressions of pleasure predominating every remark of the dancers it was a success in every re spect. Coming at just the thanks giving season when every one is in a happy humor it only served as a means for them to live out their real feelings, and that they thor oughly enjoyed the opportunity was plainly evidenced by the felicitous expression of every one. The deli cate shades of the colors worn by the ladies mingling in and out in the whirl of the dance wove as pret ty a scene for the eye as the mind was enjoying. The german was led by Mr. W. H. Kitchin dancing with Mrs. J. E. Bowers, and the unique and ably executed figures, free from any semblance of a hitch, gives the club just cause to be proud that it has among its members a leader of Mr. Kitchin's ability. Forbes' Orchestra, of Washing ton, furnished music for the occa sion, and taking into consideration all, the delightful waltz "My Beau tiful Lady," the livelier merry med leys and the double-time two-step, "Alexander's Rag-Time Band," the music admitted of no criticism whatever. Those dancing were W. H. Kitch in with Mrs J. E. Bowers; Joseph House with Miss Stella Hoffman; Charlie Lamb with Miss Louise Josey; Henry Clark with Miss Cornelia Josev: W. H. McDowell with Miss Mary Clyde Hassell, of Washington; Ashby Dunn with Miss Elizabeth Warren, of Washington; E. B. Clark, of Weldon, with Miss Hattie Leg crett: L. L. Cherry with Mrs. G. H. We are glad to learn that Mr. Mart Pope is improving from an attack of blood poison. Our church is without a pastor the coming year, it seems that it is hard to decide who to call. Some of the brother farmers are very low down in heart over the low prices of peas and cotton. One old farmer said to us a few days ago that he thought by the time he got his crop ready to sell he could not even cive it away it would be so cheap. There has not been but very few peas threshed off in this section yet. We are informed that Mr. Daniel will move to Mr. Tom D. Lawrence's farm next year.
