The Chaidotte Observer says. that 'of the 35,000 people living m Charlotte 25,500 of them occupy homes erected through the ajency of building and loan associations." This statement speaks for itself and needs no comment from us. Let us work but the harder for the organization of our home build ing and loan association. It is one of the very best ways to build up a town and help the people own and their own homes. VIOLETS OR GARBAGE. Violets are growing where for merly filth and garbage and trash were heaped in the back yards of rcnny of Cha: lotto's c: si-ens. This is due to the campaign wlreh vas lately in progress in the interest ox j concern:ng: cleaning up the city. Charlotte Ob- j i -phat in pursuance of the pro server, visions of chanter 192 of the general Let the people of Scotland Neck do what has been done in Charlotte. We ought to clean up our premises for looks' as well as for health's sake. Enough has been said in there columns already, so if we are going to do anything it ought to be done right away. BUILDING TO BE RECEIVED. We published last week the pro gram for the closing exercises of the graded school, and also the formal presentation of the building to the town, at this the first commence ment held in the new building. : It is fitting and proper that for this occasion, our governor, William Walton Kitchin. should deliver the literary address. Rev. R. C. Sea man, D. D., of Durham, will preach the sermon Wednesday night, 29th., at which time the formal presenta tion will take place. The address by Gov. Kitchin Thursday morning, 30th, and at 8:30 that night the graduating exercises will be held. Forbes Orchestra, of Washington, N. C, will make music. Every body who can ought to make it a point to attend the?e exer cises. It is our school and we should be interested enough to give the pupils and the management of the school our presence. Dealti oi Mrs. Bsnsycclt. Rosemary, N. C, April At her j home in the new Patterson mil! vil lage, Mrs. S. Honeycutt fell aslrc-p in Jesus about 3:30 p. m., Monday, April 29th. Mrs. Honeycutt was a great sufferer. She had a fall last year which caused her much pain. She was confined to her bed only a little over a month, and suffered with heart trouble during her last days, which was no doubt a part of the cause of her death. She was for many years a member of the Baptist church and was a very good woman. She leaves a husband and five children to mourn her departure. The remains were taken through the country to Weldon to meet the A. C. L. passenger train No. 89, on which they were carried to Dunn, N. C, for burial. May the good Lord send the com forting spirit to those motherless children and aching hearted hus band, i3 our unanimous prayer. Revival Services a! Roanoke Rapids. Roanoke Rapids, April 30. Revi val services conducted by Rev. E. C. Glenn, of Greensboro, and the pas tor, Rev. Wm. Lowe, in the Roanoke Rapids M. E Church, South, begin ning on Thursday night, April 18th, and closing Sunday night, April 28th. About 150 professions and reclaima tions; 47 have been received in the Methodist church, with many others to follow, and quite a number for membership in other churches of the town. This was truly a wonderful meet ing, as the Holy Spirit was present in great power and moved both saints and sinners to repentance and a higher plane of purity and holi ness. Mr. Glenn preached the Word, by the Holy Spirit's aid, and strong men and boys, timid ladies and girls, came forward for prayer by the dozens. Backsliders were re claimed and all who attended the meetings and sought a blessing re ceived it. We need more meetings like these in our county, State and country. May the Lord add His blessings and pour out His Spirit upon all flesh and His knowledge cover the earth as Ihe waters cover the great deep, is our prayer. Execute GcmniKtsc Iests. The Latin department gives on Saturday evening a play u A Roman Wedding. The Latin interior of a Roman house and the domestic life cf a Roman family is carefully depicted. The play is exceedingly interesting and instructive and the j work by the students of a very high ; order. president and Mrs. R..H. Wright gave a delightful reception in honor of the senior class on Saturday ene ning, April 27th. At their last meeting the Poe So ciety, complimentary to the Laniers, presented as a play Anne of Green Gabies. A committee from the so ciety dramatized the moral and coached it. Both the dramatization and coaching reflected great credit upon the society. Dr. Ferrell, of Raleigh, recently gave a clear, helpful talk on The Teacher's Work as it Pertains to, the Health of the Child. The senior class, in connection with their work in domestic science, is giving a series of luncaeons. Two girls have to make out, prepare and serve a luncheon for six people, the whole cost not to exceed $1.25. The second year class gave to the school on last Monday evening a beautiful and unique entertainment consisting of songs and folk dances of various nations. The costuming and light effects were beautiful. The junior class entertain the se nior on the evening of May 6th. Twilight story telling on Thursday evening has become an enjoyable feature of school life. Each of the classes and the literary societies have taken turns in furnishing the story tellers. Hero stories, Uncle Remus, nature myths, fairy tales, are well told to e3ger listeners. The Y. W. C. A. during April, gave a play, The Elopement of Ellen, to raise funds for sending delegates to the Asheville Conference. The play was quite a success. It was beautifully staged and the dramatic work was remarkably good. Jurors for Jjirg Court. Can't something be done to stop the gum-chewing1 habit in this town? If the chewers could only see how they look when their jaws are at work in the street cars or in places do it again. Gum-chewing is as bad as snuff-dipping, and nobody dips snuff nowadays. Charlotte Ob server. Some of our young ladies are like wise in the habit of chewing gum. We can't say about the snuff, be cause it is easier concealed, but we expect the former is the fore-runner of the latter. Might as well offend by spitting ell over the community as to grate on the nerves of all in hearing distance by the gush-slush sound cf chewing gum. Moore Ccrgrcsslcna! Csevcnncn Called. Windsor. N.
