THE COMMONWEALTH. PUBISHED EVERY THURSDAY. L. MILLS KITCHIS, Editor an Proprietor. AN EYE OPENER Thursday, November 26, 1914. THE MASS MEETING. Farmers, do you realize that the salvation of the South, and more es nprlallv Ihis immediate locality, dc- nXh C?:s SeS-ST ! P- " o raisin ot home sup- - - ; plies, especially all meat consumed, thereby saving to yourself and com munity in which you live this great drain in money sent to other states for this necessity of life? Did you know th-t last year North Carolina sent out of the state for meat alone over $13,000,000 00? The lait census report shows that during the fifty year period from I860 to 1910 the population in North Carolina increased 122 per cent, and during the same period fie number of cattle decreased 9 per cent and the number of hogs 33 per cent? Can you not associate this with the i j high cost of living? Is there any ! reason in raising cotton and using J the money from its sale to turn around and buy meat, when this meat could be raised at home, and this money saved to you and your community. On Decemder 2nd, as mentioned elsewhere in this issue, there will be a meeting of farmers and business men to discuss this very same econo mic question, and to hear several expert authorities on the subject of cattle and hogs, and every man in terested in the welfare and up building of this community is urged to be present. COULD SCARCELY By reference to another column it will been seen that a call has been ssnt out for a general mass meeting of farmers and business men to be held on Wednesday, December 2nd. This meeting i3 called for the pur pose of discussing the question of live stock, and securing the ser vices of a live stock expert for this community for another year. Mr. C. A. Maull, advertising man ager of the Atlantic Coast Line, has promised to be here and deliver an address. He i3 ful'y acquainted with the question, and every person who hears him will no doubt learn something that will be of benefit to him in the future. Besides Mr. Maull it is hoped to have other speakers of note to discuss the sub ject. We want to urge every person who can possibly do so to be present at this meeting and hear these gentle men discuss a subject that is now claiming the attention of every thoughtful business man and farmer throughout the South. It is exceed ingly important that you be here. Whether you have received a per sonal invitation or not come, as eve ry person in the community is invit ed and urged to be present. The meeting will be held in the offices of The Scotland Neck Bank. unles3 the attendance is too large. In that event it will be adjourned to either the town hall or opera house. WALK ABOUT And For Three Summers Mrs. Vin cent Was Unable to Attend to Any of Her Housework. Pleasant Hill, N. C "I suffered for three summers," writes Mrs. Walter Vincent, of this town, "and the third and last time, was my worst. I had dreadful nervous headaches and prostration, and was scarcely able to walk about. Could not do any of my housework. I also had dreadful pains in my back and sides and when one of those weak, sinking spells would come on me, I would have to give up and lie down, until it wore off. I was certainly in a dreadful state of health, when I finally decided to try Cardui, the woman's tonic, and I firmly believe I would have died if I hadn't taken it. i After I began taking Cardui, I was greatly helped, and all three bottles re lieved me entirely. I fattened up, and grew so much stronger in three months, I felMike an other person altogether." Cardui is purely vegetable and gentle acting. Its ingredients have a mild, tonic effect, on the womanly constitution. Cardui makes for increased strength, improves the appetite, tones up the ner vous system, and helps to make pale, sallow cheeks, fresh and rosy. Cardui has helped more than a million weak women, during the past 50 years. It will surely do for you, what it has done for them. Try Cardui today. With, a large quantity of wheat already planted, and interest being created in live stock, there are good reasons why the people of this re gion will be less helpless when an other year rolls around. There is no need to be so absolutely depend ent npon cotton to the exclusion of everything else.
