Have you seen the new suits in two materials? They are quite the rage, with their jaunty, flaring coats in one, and swagger skirts in another material which is totally different. To see them, cne must take a run down to Long Beach some afternoon, or slip over to Newport and stroll by the Casino in the morning. They are worth seeing, as they come now fresh Irom Paris and are worn by New York's smart society. It is an op portunity of a lifetime. Never has such style been disniaved on our own shores. They only wait these fashionable people, politely bored by the things at home for the war to cease, that they may winter or summer, as chance may be, on the other side of the great Atlantic. Now the modes are brought to them. If they cannot be at Monte Carlo, Trouville cr D'Eauville, they will at least wear here what they would have worn there. Paris' first venture for the fall is accepted with open arms on this side of the Atlantic. Perchance, it is because her venture is suits, for Paris knows well the American wo man's weakness for the strictly tailored. Creation is typified by the sphere. A circle is a straight line that at every point ceases to ba a stra;:rht line, and the earth's sur face i a plane that every moment ceases i-j be a plana. .Following the surface of the earth dees not carry us to the under side, because there is no rr.ore an under side than there is an upper side there is only a b.oundi-iss surface. But if it were possible for us to build a globe on the globe, as large as the one we in habit, would it not have an upper and an under side? The rain causes the grass to grow, and the sun causes the snow to meit, but we cannot apply the idea of cause, :n this sense, to Nature as a Wole, but only to parts of Nature. Obtainable' everywhere. like the dress coat of the cadet, braiding and all. With this, she were a broad, straisrht- brimmed, blue chiffon sailor, with a scarf of the chiffon edged with beads for trimming, dubbed, for its keen resemblance, the "Boy Scout." We hear from Paris that the idea Ox two materials in one suit will be carried out in ch-clred and plain, and striped and plain worsteds; already there is c'r-c.wm.'- - oy the exclusive shops. Unlike the serges, the coats of these suits are usually belted and are amply sup plied with patch pockets, more like the khaki suits worn by soldiers. One model just received from the other side is made in this style, with a plain full skirt. The coat is of dark brown worsted and the skirt, collar, belt and cuffs of a two-toned brown check. The suit is given the honor place in the window of one of our great department stores and with&it is shown the hat of the Italian bersig liere. Whether or not this hat will be popular remains to be seen. As it appears in black velvet, with slightly tilted brim, stiff high crown and drooping cock's plume at the the side, it is a bit trying to the average. It takes a daring person to wear it at the necessary forty five degree slant to give it style. That Paris has taken it up is a fact. We hear from this city: "One of the very smartest little Parisiennes appeared a day or so ago at the Ambassadeurs wearing not only the bersigliere hat with its flowing cock's plume at the .side, but also a I r.ade wholly of tulle bound Tha waist was a delicate blue, with neck edge and deep sleeve ruffle bound in rose silk, A broad girdle of the same material finished the waist, and the skirt, cut in deep points at the lower edge, was of blue tulle bound with the silk, which made it twist and billow out until the points were almost indis tinguishable.
