Branch, of the camps at Charlotte and Greenville, S. C. made very excellent talks, contri buting , no doubt, largely to the success of the meeting, but more than all else is the general interest taken in the Red Cross, which has ! been gaining ground as months have passed, and not a little cred it for the spontaneous response shoull be alloted t0 the good ladies of our town, who have shown by precept how wonderful is the or ganization of the Red Cross. Students are more and more inclined towards the idea that the perspective of our people is changing as the United States gets more and more into the great conflict. Whereas, in recent days, there has been a disposition to turn aside from our responsi bilities and even sometimes blame the war upon the President, or some other government official, rather than assume our full share, it is now the 4 'vogue" to take upon ourselves part of the burden. There is a trite saying, "'Tis an illwind that blows no-one good." and though it would seem diffi cult indeed to believe that any thing good could come out of this most terrible war, in which mil lions of the 1 'bravest and best'1 have been cut down, or mutilated and maimed, it is still true that wherever has been the greatest loss there has been found the greater revivifying of the spirit.
