" . ,' . TUESDAY, JUNE 13, 1922. BIB-E THOUGHT FOR TODAY RIGHTEOUSNESS PAYS :- Better is alittle with righteous- ness,. man great revenues witti- ont right. Proverbs 16 :8. EXACT THE FULL PENALTY An automobile driven in a sane way, carefully, by a sober person is dangerous enough to life under any circumstances, but a car driven by a drunken, irresponsible person becomes a death dealing instrument and i. a menace to any one traveling the highways. There is a State law providing the penalty for driving a car while in an intoxi cated condition and this law should be enforced to the letter in every instance of violation. If reports are true that the negro who smashed the buggy on the Hobgood road opposite the Ferrel) Farm Sunday was . in an intoxicated condition, or even had been drinking, and was not showing proper regard for the rules of the road and did not give the driver of the buggy suf ficient passing room, he should be prosecuted to the full extent ot any existing laws regardless of what influence may be brought to bear, and the law abid ing citizens of this town and com munity should make it their 'business to see that it is done even 1o the extent of employing a prosecutor, if necessary. xny man, rich or poor, white or colored, who drives a car up on the highways in an intoxicated condition is not only endanger ing 'lis'oAvn life, but is a menace to the public, and regardless of whom he may be he should - be severely dealt with. We believe the opportunity has presented it self to make an example and if the trial brings out the facts as reported no leniency should be shown. STILL THEY DO IT "We had something to say yes terday about the mutilation of the streets by tractors and such vehicles. This still continues. Yesterday afternoon a tractor was driven across the street in r the Clarksville section which cut deep gashes into the surface as phalt almost to-its full thickness. Unless this is repaired immediate ly and the sand and dirt kept out it will mean a large repair bill. We understand that there is no ordinance covering this spec ific thing, but it certainly would come under the head of damage to public property and should be so prosecuted. The eommissioners should not delay any longer passing a "specific ordinance covering such violations and then it should be drastically enforced. NOnJflilTET C. SIVLITH . Mr. Chase further stated, before; the meeting of the Road Board J that it was not his intention to make a personal atttack upon Mr. Kitehin and did not consid er he had done this, but if he had said anything which could be taken as a personal reflection upon the character of Mr. Kit chin that he (Mr. Chase) stood teady to make an apology for such and that if Mr. Kitehin felt that he (Mr. Chase) had attack o him. personally that he (Mr. Chase) does now offer to Mr. Kitehin an apology."
